Top 15 Fantasy Baseball Dynasty League SS for 2010: Take Two

Eric StashinFeb 16, 2010

Shortstop is a position loaded with young talent, some of which is just beginning to cut their teeth in the Major Leagues.  Where should Dynasty League owners rank these types of players?  Let’s take a look:

  3. Jose Reyes - New York Mets
  4. Jimmy Rollins - Philadelphia Phillies
  5. Elvis Andrus - Texas Rangers
  6. Alexei Ramirez - Chicago White Sox
  7. Derek Jeter - New York Yankees
  8. Alcides Escobar - Milwaukee Brewers
  9. Everth Cabrera - San Diego Padres
  10. Jhonny Peralta - Cleveland Indians
  11. Stephen Drew - Arizona Diamondbacks
  12. J.J. Hardy - Minnesota Twins
  13. Yunel Escobar - Atlanta Braves

Thoughts

How far do you downgrade Jeter, at 35-years old?  Do you move him below Elvis Andrus?

Do you keep him ahead of Alexei Ramirez?

What about Everth Cabrera or Alcides Escobar?

I can’t move him down that far, but in a dynasty league the potential Andrus has to contribute for the next 10+ years has to be taken into account.  He’s going to get stronger and could be the same type of player Jeter is at the plate, just with more speed in the not too distant future.

I considered moving Drew over Peralta, but considering they are both 27-years old, it just doesn’t make much sense.  It really is a toss up, so I will leave them as I have them ranked in yearly leagues.

Alcides Escobar or Everth Cabrera?

While I like Andrus better than both of them, how those three compare over the next few years is going to be extremely intriguing to watch.  You can see my write-up on all of the of them by clicking here for Escobar, here for Cabrera and here for Andrus).

While Jason Bartlett is coming off a great campaign, he’s 30-years old and over performed (as we have discussed ).  Dynasty League owners don’t want to over commit to him.

While J.J. Hardy struggled mightily last season (.229, 11 HR), you can’t simply ignore his success in ‘07 & ‘08.  He certainly has more long-term potential then some other options and I wouldn’t hesitate from taking him as a starting option.

What are your thoughts on these rankings?

Who would you rank higher?

Who do you feel was left off?
