Why?...Survivor Series

As i write this i realise that this is last weeks news, and most have gotten over it.

One of my first PPV's that i watched was Survivor Series 1989, having the participants introduce themselves as to what they were thankful for and then being introduced as teams really stuck in my mind. It was truly exciting to see guys team up with others they have never teamed up with before. Guys like Hogan and Demolition, Hogan and Warrior (1990), Warrior and the Rockers...

Slowly over the years the team aspect was lost and there was a focus on individual matches, not teams. 1998 was a King of the Ring type tournament, something completely different, yet exciting and the survivor one the WWF title.

Then in 2009 there was 2 main events with a pretty lackluster build up and simular set up, both triple threat matches. The RAW main event was more focused on Hornswaggle than on DX/Cena and turned that main event lead up into something that didnt excite me, SD was pretty similar except i thought Show/Jericho couldve broken up.

So Vince blamed Survivor Series as past its used by date, there are 23 years of history there, why not tweak it slightly and keep the name. To me this was not Survivor Seires that was the problem, it was the writers. If it wasnt for the Survivor Series name, would the buy rate be less? probably. I (like other friends) only buy the big 4 PPV's, the other PPV's i wait for the next episode of Raw or SD to see the results. There are probably 3 too many PPV's at the moment.

The big 4 names to a degree sell themselves, PPV's like Bragging Rights, HITC, Breaking Point and TLC do not excite me enough to buy.

I think it is too easy to blame the name of a PPV when i the writers do not put the effort into the story lines like they couldve. Like i said before if Survivor Series was under any other name the buy rate could've been less.
