Chicago Bulls: 2010 Is Close, But The Trade Deadline Is Even Closer

Micah FeldmanFeb 14, 2010

Everyone is dreaming and can't wait til the summer of 2010 and the best free agent class in the history of the game. Yes, it's true, but tell me, can you sign one or two of these big free agents to max contracts without any big money? The answer is no, and Chicago maybe has money for one max contract, but barely. They need to trade for cap space with the deadline is nearing.

Here are some trade possibilities they could do to free up some space:

TRADE
No. 1

Houston gets: Hinrich, Salmons, Ty Thomas

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers
DENVER NUGGETS VS GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, NBA

Chicago gets: T-mac, Carl Landry, and 2nd round pick (all expiring contracts)

TRADE No. 2

Memphis gets: Luol Deng

Chicago gets: Rudy Gay, Steven Hunter, Lester Hudson (all expiring contracts)

TRADE No. 3

Washington gets: Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer

Utah gets: Mike Miller, Randy Foye, Andray Blatche, and Chicago second round pick

Chicago gets: Ronnie Brewer, Ronnie Price, and first round picks from both teams

TRADE No. 4

Clippers get: Ty Thomas and John Salmons

Chicago gets: Marcus Camby and Al Thornton (All trades were tested and succeeded on the ESPN NBA trade machine)

So let's say the Bulls do trade Nos. 1 and 3.

Then resign Ronnie Brewer for about two or three years because he's an defensive asset.

Then after all this is said and done we have room for TWO max contracts and three first round picks. I'd personally sign LeBron an Bosh. I would love to have Wade for a homecoming but we really need Bosh because of his inside offensive presence and if we sign LeBron and Wade and we'd already have Rose, they'd have a tough time figuring out who takes over.

With our draft picks it would look something like this:

Wizards pick (around the 3rd pick) Evan Turner G/F Ohio State: He's a  proven star at OSU and is getting compared to Rudy Gay.

Our Pick (around 15-18) Gani Lawal PF G-Tech: He's a beast and is kind of like Taj Gibson just more athletic.

Utah's Pick (22-25) Sherron Collins PG Kansas:  He's a hard nose defender with great leadership and court control. He can knock down the three and is very athletic. A Kirk Hinrich carbon copy

With that, our 2010 lineup looks like this

PG Derrick Rose    Sherron Collins

SG Ronnie Brewer   Evan Turner

SF Lebron James    Evan Turner

PF Chris Bosh     Taj Gibosn       Gani Lawal

C Joakim Noah          (Bosh)

Ummm...I can only say three words right now...
