Dean Amasinger falls short in quest for UCMMA Welterweight Belt

The Ultimate Fighter US vs. UK contestant Dean Amasinger fell short in his attempt to capture the Ultimate Challenge MMA welterweight belt on Sunday when he was TKO'd by Alberto Mina.

Amasinger pushed the pace early on, but found the BJJ black belt Mina dangerous from his guard, it was a good first round from the Team Rough House fighter, who was being cornered by Paul Daley and UFC Welterweight number one contender Dan Hardy. He even managed to sweep Mina at one point before the champion took control in the second round.

Mina was trying hard to get the fight to the mat, but Amasinger defended most of his takedowns well before he was caught with a straight right and taken down in the third. From there Mina took his back and prompted the referee to stop the bout after landing several unanswered strikes.

Fighting out of London Shootfighters Mina may be one to keep an eye on and he will take on John Maguire, who was also victorious on the night, in his next bout.

Mark Weir took the UCMMA middleweight belt in an entertaining contest with Mark Epstein. Weir took a unanimous decision victory after controlling the majority of the fight and at one point dropping Epstein to the canvas with a headkick.

Another winner on the card was heavyweight prospect Stav Economou, who won by choking out Shola Adeniran. Economou looked for the knockout early on before taking his opponent's back and finishing the fight on the ground.

The only defeat on Economou's record goes to Karlos Vermola, who was also victorious, besting Peter Yandell inside a minute. Vermola came out strong and quickly took his opponent to the mat where he ground 'n' pounded his way to a knockout victory.
