Sacramento Kings Future As a Team, Trades, Free Agents, Draft

Jeremy JContributor IFebruary 13, 2010

For first off, I don't expect to see Kenny Thomas, Andres Nocioni, Sean May, Hilton Armstrong, Ime Udoka, and Sergio Rodriguez on the team after the end of next season.

As for Kevin Martin, Jason Thompson and Spencer Hawes, one or even two of these guys might be traded before the Feb. 18 deadline, but I doubt a trade will actually be finalized.

Geoff Petrie is building this team around No. 4 pick Tyreke Evans and No. 23 pick Omri Casspi. Other guys who I see to be in the mix are Kevin Martin, Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes, Donte Greene, Francisco Garcia, Beno Udrih, Jon Brockman, and three guys from the draft and/or free agency.

I expect Petrie to take a defensive big man with our first round draft pick this year since Thompson is constantly getting into foul trouble and Hawes is not the greatest defensive player.

A couple of big men whom I see the Kings eyeing this coming draft include Derrick Favors, DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Larry Sanders, and Cole Aldrich.

Out of all of these guys, I do not see a top 5-10 in the league star down the line in any of them, like I did in Tyreke Evans.

I like Sanders and Aldrich for their defensive skills and the other three for their offensive skills. To be a critic to these guys, I think

Favors: Needs to get a jumper and learn post moves because he won't be getting alley-oops every time in the NBA like in college

Cousins: needs to mature more and find a better couple of moves because the NBA power forwards will easily defend him.

Monroe: needs to be more aggressive with the ball. I want him to take over a game and dominate the opponent rather than just getting by; I want the killer instinct.

Sanders: Only on the court for defense. Reminds me of a smaller Thabeet. Raw project who needs to bulk up and develop some sort of offensive game in order to be a regular player in the NBA.

Aldrich: Underrated big man coming into his own. Above average at most, but not great at one thing. Not the greatest quickness or athleticism, but makes up with his love for the game and energy.

I would like to see the Kings draft Derrick Favors first, but if not, then Cole Aldrich. Evans is already improving his shooting and I think Favors can too, but with Wespthal's up and down, fast paced offense, Favors won't need to develop his offensive skills fast and can develop them during the season.

But this season or even off season, Sacramento needs to try and get some big name ticket (Bosh, Amare, someone) to help sell out Arco Arena and start selling jerseys because being at Arco Arena on a regular basis and looking around and seeing empty seats is just not fun to see as a Sacramento Kings fan.
