Kevin Kolb a Cleveland Brown? A Browns Hypothetical Trade Scenario

Daniel WolfFeb 11, 2010

The Cleveland Browns need a quarterback and one way to get that is perhaps in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for their backup Kevin Kolb.

It may be Brady Quinn, who is going into his fourth season, or it might not be Quinn.

What is going through Browns' president Mike Holmgren's head right now?

Not too many people know that answer, but this article was inspired by another Browns article that was written by fellow featured columnist, Sam Ingro. You can read it here .

Not to get into the heavy details of his article, he proposed that the Browns trade down into the middle of the first round, and then trade that first round pick to the Eagles for their backup Kolb.

In this journalists' opinion, there is no way that Kolb is worth a first round pick.

Maybe a second round pick at the most.

Changing lanes quickly now, 'IF' Holmgren wants to go in a new direction at quarterback then here is a new proposal to get Kolb via a trade.

There have been rumors that it might be a good idea to trade defensive lineman Shaun Rogers to get some value out of him, since his backup Athyba Rubin showed he is better suited at nose tackle in the 3-4.

The trade proposal is...(drum roll please)...Shaun Rogers and Brady Quinn for Kevin Kolb, one of the Eagles third round picks and one of their fifth round picks.

The Browns and Holmgren/Heckert get their quarterback and another draft pick and the Eagles get a defensive lineman that will dominate in the trenches.

Kolb was drafted by Browns general manager Tom Heckert, so we know he likes him, and Heckert could pull the string on this one, 'IF' Quinn is not a fit at quarterback for the Browns.

You may be thinking, "Why put Quinn in this deal?"

Honestly, having both Kolb and Quinn on the same roster would turn it into another drama like what Browns fans have had to deal with Quinn and Derek Anderson being on the same roster for the last several years.

Plus, his value is not high at all right now and if Holmgren/Heckert could get two more draft picks out of this deal along with a future quarterback, then it might need to be explored.

Quinn is a competitor, and he will not want to take a back seat while wearing an orange helmet if Kolb is brought in as the starter and because Holmgren has already told the media that there will not be another quarterback competition this year.

This means that 'IF' Holmgren is not happy with Quinn and he brings in another quarterback, then that quarterback who is acquired will be the starter without a doubt.
