Jake Ellenberger's Time Is Now
For some of you, the name "Jake Ellenberger" may still be unknown, but with a 22-5 MMA record and already two fights inside the octagon, it won't stay that way for much longer.
At only 24 years old, this young fighter from Team Quest has a bright future ahead of him. Beginning his MMA career with 12 straight wins was a good way to turn heads. As his record indicates, Ellenberger is a well-rounded mixed martial arts fighter.
Where Jake really shines is with his wrestling skills and aggressiveness. With 14 of his 22 wins coming by either KO or TKO, Ellenberger has shown not only to worry about his takedows, but his hands as well.
At UFC Fight Night 19, he made his UFC debut against top welterweight and current WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit. Most people anticipated an easy night for Condit, but it was not to be. Ellenberger clearly dominated the first round and came close to finishing the fight three times in the opening round.
Condit later went on to win the fight by split decision, but with such a tough fight in his debut, Ellenberger impressed a lot of people.
His next fight came at UFC 108 against Mike Pyle. Ellenberger didn't let victory slip away this time, as he dominated Pyle the whole fight, making it look easy, and ended the fight in the second round by TKO.
It's now that opportunity knocks at Ellenberger's door, because at UFC 111, he now replaces Martin Kampmann and will fight Ben Saunders. This fight will most likely give Jake the publicity he deserves. Saunders is a fighter well known to the UFC fans.
If Jake can pull off the win, it will be the beginning of a bright future for the young man. With the skills he has displayed so far, Jake Ellenberger is definitely a name you do not want to forget.
