The Nasty R Crew..2010 Defense...Picky Nose Tackle Issues

Scour the "Phil Steel" college football publication for the top 50 DT in the nation and you'll find a common thread, EVERYONE weighs over 270 pounds, with only three weighing under 280...

TRANSLATION..."SIZE MATTERS"..Or bluntly stated, to compete with the BIG BOYS..we must get bigger at NT...PERIOD!......We cannot have starting NT's weighing UNDER 270 if we want to compete or as coach Schiano once said "Become great one day" !

While I'm not suggesting that finding "walking condos" to play NT is easy because it's not....however fortunately for coach Schiano the answer(s) were REDSHIRTED..and can be located on his bench....

1- Issac Holmes 6 feet 3 @ 290, ...

2- Antwan Lowery (Captain-Condo) 6 feet 4 @ 320..

And of course incumbents Scott Vallone - 6 feet 3 @ 270 and Wayne Thomas - 6 feet 5 @ 270.  (Note - I don't believe there are any NT's in the NFL weighing UNDER 280)..

This of course removes Charlie Noonan from the NT equation because his "when wet" weight/size of 6 feet 2 @ 265 is far too light for a NT at this level.. to say nothing about the "next level"... No Div 1 team at this level "should" have NT's weighing under 270, maybe "lower" programs such as VMI, William & Mary or Appalachian State can but NOT a team with BCS / Big East/ National championship aspirations.

My suggestion for the very talented Charlie Noonan is to drop 20 pounds and become a monster MLB, for at the MLB postion Charlie Noonan may have a chance to further his playing days at the next level...
