Denver Should Start It's Free Agency Search In Oakland

Darrin WashingtonFeb 9, 2010

Thank you Al Davis.

Thank you for trading a first round pick to bring a dominate pass rusher to the AFC West in a contract year.  Thank you for showing the Broncos up close why they should break the bank for Richard Seymour.

If you followed the Broncos for any number of years then you know that a sore spot on the Broncos has always been the defensive end position.  Mike Shanahan just could not figure out how to properly stock the end position during his tenure as coach and general manager in Denver.

Things even got so drastic that the Broncos once traded up in the draft to acquire... Jarvis Moss. To make things better they burned their next selection on Tim Crowder.  Both players were embarrassing flops and the Broncos are still looking for a dynamic game changing force on the defensive line.

This is where Richard Seymour comes in.

He is the prototypical 3-4 defensive end.  He has the experience, he has the rings.  He's a great leader as well.  There is no doubt in my mind that the Broncos would not regret it if they did whatever it would take to persuade him to leave the Raiders.

The benefits of signing Richard Seymour would  totally outweigh the risks.  He'd be an instant upgrade over Kenny Peterson or Ryan McBean. The defense would be able to sport multiple looks because Seymour can play inside or outside.  It would also allow the Broncos to focus on adding as many offensive play makers through the draft as well as young offensive linemen.  It's a total win-win.

The market for Seymour will be huge because his presence on the line would improve practically any team in the league.  The Broncos should definitely throw their hats in the ring for his services.
