Donovan McNabb To The Broncos?

According to a recent ESPN report, the Denver Broncos were among three teams that have inquired about the availability of Eagles Quarterback Donovan McNabb.  This is very interesting.  It was just a week or so ago that it seemed that Bronco fans were looking at another year of Kyle Orton as the trigger man in Denver.  There were positive words from the coach and owner all behind Mr. Orton.

What happened?

Well probably nothing.  The playoffs came and went, with the Broncos sitting at home after coming out the gates 6-0.  A lot of things went right and wrong for the Broncos this season but is Kyle Orton really the right man to "goat" for another mid-season collapse? Is Donovan McNabb going to change fortunes in Denver?

Not likely.

Donovan McNabb has lead the Eagles to three NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl appearance as a starting Quarterback.  The resume' stands for itself.  He has all the numbers, except for one: rings.  Donovan McNabb is historically a "hot and cold" Quarterback.  He is either on fire, slicing the opposing defense, or you are wondering who hid in the Eagles locker room and put on number five's jersey.  

Another number that isn't in Donovan's favor is his age, 33.  At this point in his career one has to wonder if he will ever put it together and win the big one.  Granted, the same questions were said about John Elway until Terrell Davis came along but McNabb has had far more talented teams with nothing to show for it except one embarassing Super Bowl performance.  

The Broncos have to ask themselves long and hard if McNabb is really going to be that much of an upgrade over Orton.  If he comes at a cheap price, then it's a no-brainer.  McNabb would be a great role model and tutor to Kyle Orton and Tom Brandstater.  However if the Broncos are considering selling the farm for McNabb, then they should definitely reconsider at this point in his career.
