Fabio's Golden Decision

Jack JohnsonFeb 9, 2010

Fabio Capello faces one of the biggest decisions of his managerial career in a couple of months. England I'm afraid expects once again, but this time its different. Fabio can take England to glory.

The big question is who will he take. Will he look at the experience of David Beckham and David James? Will he gamble on the likes of James Milner, Ashley Young and Gabby Agbonlahor to fire England to glory?

To be honest, whoever Capello picks for his squad it is pretty much guaranteed that they will be fit and ready. There will be no repeats of the Beckham and Rooney injuries that tripped England up in 2002 and 2006. If your not fit you don't play.

The World Cup is edging ever closer, so while Capello ponders over his team, I thought I would pick one for him:

GK: Green, Hart, Robinson

D: Johnson, Brown, A.Cole, Bridge, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson

M: Lennon, Beckham, J.Cole, Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick

F: Rooney, Defoe, Heskey, Crouch, Walcott

I'm sure some of you will disagree with this team but I will explain the reasoning behind this team.

Firstly, there is no David James because he has rarely featured so far this season and no longer seems to have the motivation. Secondly, Wes Brown is included as back-up to Glen Johnson because he quietly does a good job for Manchester United and can also fill in at centre back.

David Beckham has been picked ahead of Shaun Wright-Phillips because of his experience and simply because SWP does not perform well enough for England. Beckham can supply that killer ball at any time and with him in the side England need someone like Crouch or Heskey in the team. Beckham is also an important figure in the dressing room - he has the respect of the other players.

Michael Carrick is also in the side because of his performances for Manchester United over the last three years. England may just need his range of passing and calm head if the going gets tough.
