The Diaries of a Dallas Mavericks' Fan: February 7-8
Due to unforeseen events at home that have severely reduced my writing time, I had to conjure up a way to maintain my presence at B/R.
The following will hopefully be a continuing saga.
Since B/R prides itself as being written by fans, I am writing this purely from a fans perspective.
So indulge me as I post these observations in the daily entries of The Dairies of a Dallas Mavericks' Fan.
February 7
Dear Diary,
It's "Super Bowl Sunday"...Saints vs Colts. I'm feeling "BIG DEAL;" it's not my team anyway, but will watch for the neat ads and the halftime show.
No Mavs game tonight!
Next year's Super Bowl will be the Dallas Cowboys!
Read an article today 'bout the NBA owners proposed CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) that was sent to the heads of the NBA players union.
Sounds like to me it will cause a lockout.
I know the economy is bad and the team's owners are feeling the pinch, too. They want to save themselves as much cash as possible. For some teams this is a matter of survival sake, since they are losing money.
What the owners propose is a cut on the "Max" salary, eliminating the mid-cap exception rules, and a few other things to tweak out the teams budget.
From what I decipher, it would impose a hard salary cap.
Right! Good luck selling that one, guys!
Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, this year's Super Bowl Champions (we beat you!).
February 8
Dear Diary,
The Mavs play Golden State tonight.
Please let them get back to their winning ways! This losing is insane.
Hope coach Carlisle continues to give Roddy B. more minutes, he was one of the few bright spots of the last game that we LOST.
Looked at the standings this morning. We are now in fourth place in the Western Conference, seven games behind the first-place Lakers.
Just think Diary, six weeks ago we were in second place in the West.
What in the heck has happened to my Mavericks?
Just read that Eric Dampier more than likely won't play tonight. He is still bothered with fluid on his knee. That means another start for Drew Gooden, who should give us another double-double tonight.
Tim Thomas will be out too. Since he hasn't made an impact on the rotation, Thomas won't be missed.
The rumor mills are still abuzz with talk of Mavs making a move before the February 18trade deadline.
We need help now if the Mavs are going to make good on this season.
