Saints Win Super Bowl XLIV: Colts Fall Apart In the Second Half
After trailing 10-0 early the Saints put up two field goals before half time en route to a 31 - 17 victory in Super Bowl XLIV.
Peyton Manning and the Colts started out strong with a stop for thew defense then a drive to get a field goal, followed by a touchdown drive to spot the Colts a 10 - 0 lead.
The Saints, however did not lay down and die, but got up and fought just like they did in every game this year. They drove down and made the game 10 - 3.
After the first field goal New Orleans found themselves in a perfect position to tie the game up with a 1st down inside the Indianapolis 5 yard line. Then a false start put them back a few yards, this would prove to be a crucial penalty.
Second down a handoff put the Saints back inside the five, and a third down play put them even closer. 4th down came and Drew Brees stayed on the field. The Colts did not slip though as they stopped the play short of the goal line.
The Saints defense finally started to make plays on the Colts next drive as they forced the Colts to a 3 and out, it was the only 3 plays the Colts offense would see the entire second quarter.
The Saints then got the ball and drove down for a late field goal to send the game to halftime 10-6. Peyton Manning and the Colts came out ready to receive the ball and make a drive, but the Saints kicked an onside kick to start the second half and the Saints recovered.
That play was the single most important play of the game. The Saints now had all the momentum as they took a 13-10 lead.
The game was close all the way to the middle of the 4th quarter, when the Colts were down 24-17 with under 5 minutes left and driving. It looked like the game could be the first ever Super Bowl to go into overtime then out of nowhere Mr. Clutch Peyton Manning throws a ball and Tracy Porter comes up with it and runs it all the way back to New Orleans. Well, not really but he did take it to the endzone. That was the last score of the game.
The Saints had won their first Super Bowl in franchise history, and Drew Brees was the MVP after completing a Super Bowl record tying 32 passes.
Let me be one of the first to say, let the party go on for a year in New Orleans, the best place to party in the world.
In a memorable Super Bowl the Colts are now 2-2 in Super bowls, all of which were in Miami, and the Saints are 1-0 in Super Bowls, the only of which was in Miami.
Good Night and Hopes of a great Offseason to everyone.
