Saints vs. Colts: Drew Brees vs. Peyton Manning, Who Will Win Super Bowl XLIV?

Daniel WolfFeb 7, 2010

Super Bowl XLIV will have two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL on display with the New Orleans Saints' Drew Brees and the Indianapolis Colts' Peyton Manning.

The question is, who will win?

As far as the better overall player many will say Manning, but Brees is not that far off in regards to work ethic, reading defenses, statistics, etc.

Manning has the history of the NFL flowing through his blood, since his father Archie was also a quarterback in the NFL.

Brees has had to go against the odds for much of his career, whether it was critics saying he was too short to play quarterback in the NFL or the media saying he would not be able to recover from his career-threatening shoulder injury at the end of the 2005 season.

Manning has had his fair share of uphill battles, starting with the fact that he would be in his father's shadow once he got to the NFL and being the No. 1 overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Both quarterbacks are very dominating with their passing skills and ability to read defenses, and both have a plethora of weapons on their respective offenses.

Is one better than the other?

That is for the fans to debate, but Manning does have an edge; not only is he a four-time NFL MVP, he's won a Super Bowl too.

Brees might be able to match that if the Saints can beat the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV, but this is still a debate for the fans.

Here are Mannings' 2009 stats followed by career stats:

393-571, 68.8 percent, 4.500 yards, 33 touchdown, 16 interceptions, 99.9 QB rating.

4,232-6,531, 64.8 percent, 50,128 yards, 366 touchdowns, 181 interceptions, 95.2 QB rating.

Brees' 2009 stats followed by his career stats:

363-514, 70.6 percent, 4,388 yards, 34 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 109.6 QB rating.

2,697-4,164, 64.8 percent, 30,646 yards, 202 touchdowns, 110 interceptions, 91.9 QB rating.

The stats show that Manning has been more consistent throughout his career, but Brees' stats are not too bad by any means either.

One thing's for sure: Manning will easily make it into the Pro Football Hall of Fame right now, but Brees may not be far behind, especially if he can win Super Bowl XLIV.

As far as who will come out on top?

We will all just have to watch as it unfolds in Miami, FL.
