NXT: How To Make It Huge (Hopefully More Successful Than The XFL)

Kenny CombsFeb 6, 2010

Okay Vince, I hope somehow you stumble upon this article before you ruin something that has loads of potential.  About six months ago, my brother and I were talking about how bad WWE was and how they needed to get rid of ECW so they could have more talent on their two big shows.  Our idea to replace ECW was to create a minor league type promotion that was treated like the minor leagues for sports such as baseball or the developmental league for the NBA.  Now there are a ton of things you could do and a ton of things you should not do.  Here were some of our ideas and why not everybody list their ideas and maybe someone from WWE will see and put together something good.

Our thought process was that you reinvent the rivalry between Smackdown and Raw for who had the best show.  At the time it was before Shane left so we thought maybe Vince should be giving one show to Shane and one to Stephanie and whoever created the best most profitable show would be left the company when he retired.

Each show would be allowed so many roster spots and anybody that did not make the roster on either show could compete in the minors in hope of making to the big leagues. This would include mostly young unknown wrestlers that are trying to make it for the first time, but could also have some wrestlers who have made it and failed trying to work their way back up. Since Stephanie and Shane are competing for the best show they would be scouting the minors to look for future stars.  This idea also would also put pressure on people at the bottom of the Raw and Smackdown roster in fear of losing their spots and open the door for storylines between the bottom of the roster fighting each other to keep a job.

On the actual minor league show you would have champions just like they do in minor league baseball but obviously being champion there does not make you championship material when you do get a call up.  This way when they get to Raw or Smackdown they do not have to be a main-eventer right away.  Also you can use it as a minor leagues such as an injury on Raw will get someone a call up to fill in for a night knowing a good impression may keep them there and a bad one may send them right back down.

Other ideas we had were that since it is the minors and everyone is in training you mainly focus on their wrestling skills and not storylines or gimmicks.  This way as the promising stars start to rise their personalities can help determine their gimmicks and they do not burn out a gimmick at the minor leagues before hitting the big time.  They would all answer to certain trainers who would give them advice on how to win more matches through working on their in ring technique.  Such as I hate nothing more than a high flyer who is called a great wrestler just because he jumps and flips in the air but his opponent has to run to the spot he is going to land in and catch him.  When something like this happens or other uncrisp moves that make wrestling look fake, the trainer can explain to them that the move is not any good if they do not make solid contact then they can also tell them I want you to add certain moves to your repertoire to make you more competitive and train them on more moves.  You have endless possibilities of people getting frustrated with trainers and trainers getting frustrated with the wrestlers.  This article is getting a little long so I will rap it up with a few more bullet points of ideas we had, obliviously we had a long discussion about this.

·         Managers could come down to scout and get members for a stable

·         Mystery partners could come from out of the minors

·         Wrestlers coming back from injuries could have a rehab match in minors, with every once in a long while one of the promising stars pulling off an upset

·         A tournament ever so often with the winner getting a guaranteed contract to the brand of his choice

·         Wrestlers trying to make comebacks starting out there to reprove themselves

·         Also can develop friendships and rivalries at the minor league level that can be continued in the majors and taken to next level

·         More of a focus on the actual wrestling with no regular storylines that you would usually get on Raw or Smackdown

·         We had a lot more but what do you have?
