One of the most fieriest derby matches in recent times it was an all out battle for supremacy. Tackles were flying in throughout the match. Steven Pienaar was lucky only to be shown a yellow. But minutes later, Kyrgiakos got sent off for a two-footed lunge on Fellaini, who himself was lucky to get away with a red in the same tackle.

Liverpool came out flying in the second half and scored through Dirk Kuyt.Everton ran out of ideas as Liverpool put nine men behind the ball. Late on in the second half, things went bad again as Gerrard collided with Pienaar, Anichebe, Heitenga, Agger, Mascherano all got involved in the resulting scuffle. Anichebe and Gerrard were yellow carded as a result. Near the end, Pienaar got sent off for a wild barge on Gerrard.

Riena: 8

Was very commanding in the air and pulled of a great save at the end from shot from Yakubu.

Carragher: 8.5

Derby day is all about passion for Carragher and he was immense at the back for Liverpool at RB, shifted to CB after the sending off for Kyrgiakos and did even better.

Kyrgiakos: 4

Played well until he got himself red carded for a two-footed lunge on Fellaini, but it was a bit harsh considering that Fellaini got away with it.

Daniel Agger: 8.5

Played really well, negated the Everton aerial advantage and was really solid.

Insua: 7

Solid at the back and provided width in attack.

Kuyt: 9.5

Dirk Kuyt was everywhere for Liverpool, from front to back. Got the vital goal in the second half and got back to help the defense.

Lucas Leiva: 8.5

Played well, had to do a lot of closing down as Liverpool were down to 10 men.

Javier Mascherano: 9

Started the game as a defensive midfielder but shifted to Right back after Kyrgiakos was sent off, did really well and stopped Everton from creating anything down the right.

Maxi Rodriguez: 7

Didn't do much in attack but he had to help out the defense since Liverpool were down to 10 men, did well.

Steven Gerrard: 8.5

Played in his own half for most of the game after the sending off, made some great tackles and it was his corner from which Kuyt scored.

David Ngog: 7

Did well as a lone striker, held up the ball well, but let himself down on some occasions, too.

Substitutes

Ryan Babel: 6

Was brought on for Ngog but didn't do a lot.

Martin Sktrel:

Came on in the 95th minute.

Dirk Kuyt : Was everywhere on the pitch worked really hard for the team and capped it  off with a winner.
