Attention Media: Stop Slurping Peyton Manning, Please!

Kyle T. MosleyFeb 5, 2010

Get out some knee pads for these guys. The continuous praise and glorification of Peyton Manning has reached new heights. Two weeks ago we (Saints Fans) heard the same glorification of Brett Favre before he left his "pants on the ground" in the Superdome. The news media is looking for a king to bow down, kiss up to and slurp all of their greatness, and now it is Peyton Manning. That's right, I said it! It must end!

Has the Super Bowl already been played and won by the Colts? Don't tell that to the national media. If it is Rich Eisen and Moochi on the NFL Network, to the other Mike (not Golic) on ESPN, to Clark Judge of CBSSports.com, FoxSports.com, ProFootballWeekly, SI.com, and list goes on and on. The slobbering of Peyton Manning and the Colts as the overwhelming favorite to win Super Bowl 44 is ridiculously nauseating (I hope this is a word).

With this in mind, should the Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints arrive at SunLife stadium and play the game? Should they all just forfeit for Peyton's sake today? What gives with all of the Peyton worship? Is he a great football player? Yes. But wait, so is Drew Brees. But the Colts won 14 regular season games. But, didn't the Saints win 13 games? Peyton won an MVP for the fourth time. Drew was right there for the second year in a row.  Why, the media anointed him, that's why.

The point is, the media has made a decision to create the persona that the Colts are the ultimate team in football. Sorry, but they are not. Good team but not great. The Saints will prove this to everyone on Sunday evening. The media create similar personas for Brett Favre and they lost to the Broncos. Similar persona to Kurt Warner of the Rams when they lost to the Patriots. Next up was Tom Brady and the undefeated Pats, but they promptly lost to the Giants. Every time the media breaks out their knee pads to crown their "King of the Greatest QB Ever" the QB and team loses in the Super Bowl.

I believe the Saints will win in convincing fashion against a well coached Colts team. But, please news guys - yeah, you too Peter King - STOP THE SLURPING!!! It's getting too loud and we, no I am sick of it. You do know that Drew Brees is playing in this game, right? Geaux Saints.
