WWE: Could a Homecoming Tournament Work For the Tag Team Division?

Jason donnellyFeb 4, 2010

While the WWE continues a desperate search for the men that can help lead the company's main event into the next era of "Monday night wars" they continue to overlook the diluted tag team division.

To many, the fast paced and exciting action of tag team warfare has captivated us and left us in a state of awe at the amazing connections forged between two men.

The flood of great teams such as the Hardy's, Los Guerreros, the Free Birds, The Hart Foundation, and the Legion of Doom has ended and now the world's premier wrestling organisation has been left in a state of drought.

The only true tag teams remaining are The Hart Dynasty, Cryme Tyme, and The Dude Busters (the SES is a stable, a gathering of men with similar aspirations, not a actual tag team) unless of course Matt Hardy and The Great Khali strike you as a formidable combination.

While another DX reunion might be good for ratings, It gives the impression that the WWE only sees the Unified Tag Team Championships as a way to have SD/RAW main eventers appear on all three shows (am I the only one who is already sick of DX?)

While watching the less than stellar "Alied Powers, The Worlds Greatest Tag Teams" a few weeks back, after further increasing my appreciation towards some of the classics, I began to feel a great deal of concern towards the future of the division. But then it hit me...

Recently on the WWE's secondary brand, ECW, to boost frequent low ratings, the creative division held a "homecoming tournament" where ECW champions of the past, present and future, came together to compete for the opportunity to take part in a 10-man battle royal (please correct me if I'm wrong) for the position as No. 1 contender.

Could the same work for The Unified Tag Team Championship? And If so, what sort of teams would you like to see compete?

Just to throw a ideas out there, some of the teams could include: The Colons (Carlito and Primo) The World's Greatest tag team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas), and The Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane).
