Nick Diaz Is The Truth

Smoots BirdoogFeb 3, 2010

After becoming the Strikeforce welterweight champion on January 30th, Nick Diaz has been repeatedly shredded in most blogs, by MMA bandwagon yuppies and UFC loyalists.  The fight has been kicked down and deemed amateurish because the venue was held under Strikeforce's banner.

Could it be that perhaps... just maybe, there are other great fighting talents outside of the UFC?  I know it's tough to grasp for those people that swallow every word spewed by the omniscient Dana White, but for the sake of this article, lets pretend there is.

Nick Diaz is easily one of those top talents at 170lbs.  There isn't much he doesn't bring to the cage every time he sets foot in it.

Every fight of his I've watched over the past two years has lacked one thing; staleness.  He brings it straight at his opponent every round with unrelenting assaults backed by a seemingly endless vat of stamina.  In some instances, it appears he can simply pepper other men into defeat by softly punching their faces over and over again.

But there is nothing soft about Captian Cannabis.

He put Marius "The Whitemare" (laugh at the nickname) Zaromskis down in the first round of their championship fight.  Zaromskis is no slouch either friends.  He was on a 5 fight win streak, winning his last 3 contests via 1st round KO.  Not to mention the fact he was the DREAM 2009 Grand Prix Welterweight Champion.

After the victory, the "Diaz hater-nation" poured out insults, bashing the champ for not fighting anyone his own size.  When these people were told that fighters are classed by weight, and not height, the "Diaz hater-nation" counter attacked by saying Diaz only fights "short stubby dudes".

It's almost as if these rejects want to paint Diaz as some sort of magical, weightless, elongated wonder.  A man with twice the length, half the weight, and a keen eye for the shortest most compact opponents available.

No matter what Nick Diaz does there will always be a slew of haters, yuppies, anti-marijuana nazis, and UFC loyalists who will continue to downgrade his achievements.  And I bet if Nick had it his way, he would engage each one of these people in the art of fisticuffs.

He's a true born fighter and entertainer.  He is a man of violence.  If I called him right now and said "Hey pussy, want to fight" he would reply "yup" and we would go from there.  He wouldn't question my weight, height, credentials or background.  The simple fact that I referred to him as a "pussy" would be enough.

And that is one of his most charming qualities.

Do I think Diaz is the best at 170lbs?  There is room for speculation, but the crown still rests comfortably on GSP's head.  I do think however, with some more time, continual growth and a dash of luck, that crown could easily pass into Diaz's hands.
