Alabama Crimson Tide's 2010 Recruiting Class Is Just Fine, Thank You!
From across various message boards, sounds of impending doom (or at least disappointment) has been resonating.
"We lost Keenan Allen."
"James Stone signed with the Viles."
"I can't believe Shon Coleman stayed with Auburn."
And on and on.
Folks, get a grip! Alabama has just signed another top five recruiting class! No, we will not be ranked number one in the recruiting polls (I know, we are getting spoiled), nor did we get X amount of "5 stars".
BUT the world did not explode—the star system is purely subjective anyway. Alabama is still the defending national champion, AND they just signed one of their more important classes.
To the naysayers and the doomsday freaks: Sure, losing Keenan Allen stung a bit. He is a talented kid who should do well, but the day coach Saban starts dealing with an "adviser" to any high school player is the day that Alabama football reverses all of the good of the last few years. Kudos to CNS for sidestepping that land mine.
Shon Coleman was never ours to lose. He was an Auburn commit and stayed that way. We did have a shot, but to undo months of a commitment in eight days is asking a little bit much, even for a super recruiter like Nick Saban.
The only recruit that I feel bad about losing is James Stone, but the minute Lane Kiffen bolted out west is the minute that we lost him. Stone was not going to sign with the zoo crew, but when they left his favorite school, he had no doubts where he was going.
We just signed arguably the best high school QB in the country in Phillip Sims, the best CB in the country in Demarcus Milliner, the best OG in the country in Chad Lindsey, and the best PK in the country in Cade Foster.
The Tide filled all of its needs, and picked up athletes that will have time to grow into the players that will help Alabama stay on top. Some will contribute right away, and some will redshirt to continue getting stronger, faster, and learning the complexities of a Nick Saban football system.
All in all, not a bad day at the Capstone!
