Markus Naslund May be the Swed-ist Fit Come July 1st

Steve McSweenJun 30, 2008

With Brian Campbell, Marian Hossa and fellow country man Mats Sundin stealing the spotlight on the free agent market at tomorrow's deadline, it may be 35 year old Markus Naslund who will make the the biggest impact for some NHL team looking to take a run next season.

As bad as fans in Vancouver will have you believe he was, he still managed to produce 25 goals and 30 assists last season.

Still, he took more heat than Britney Spears at a number one mom convention.

No wonder he put his house up for sale last week.

The guy still can play.

He can still be very effective, as well as bring some leadership to a team at a reasonable price.

Would he not look good in a Montreal Canadiens jersey? Heck they could just let him wear Mats Naslund's old number 12.

Or how about in Pittsburgh, where he began his career, if he could score 48 with Brendan Morrison, just think of the numbers he could put up with Sid the kid or Malkin.

What about in Detroit playing with Zetterberg?

The fact is Naslund can still produce, and with the "right fit" he may just be better than many expect him to be.

The only thing Naslund missed in Vancouver was media savvy, and for that he will  get no teary send off though he is the teams all-time leading scorer, a gutless move on the clubs behalf I believe.

Oh yeah, I forgot, it's Vancouver where they riot after almost winning the Stanley Cup.

Wherever he end's up Markus Naslund will make an impact, that is for sure.

With no "C" on his chest he can just go out and do his thing on the ice, and not worry about anything else.

Just being Swede...with a whole lotta finnish!
