July Jumble: Mascot Brawl (Part 1)

K BaldJun 30, 2008

After watching the Youtube clips over and over of the Oregon Duck beating the tar out of the Houston Cougar, I started thinking how cool it would be to take a Saturday off from college football and just watch all the mascots go at it.  Which school's mascot would prevail?

I have set up a March Madness-style tournament with four separate brackets to figure out which school's mascot is the toughest.

Like I said, there are four separate brackets with all the schools from the Pac-10, ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big East, and Big 12.  There are also a few other noteworthy schools thrown in there.

Every few days I will be running through one of the brackets until we have a Final Four.

All brackets were filled in by drawing names out of a hat.

I reserve the right to judge each match-up however I see fit.

Today's Match-ups: Play-In Games

Penn State vs. Connecticut

Nittany Lion vs. Husky.  Lions can be pretty brutal, are great hunters, and are pretty sneaky.  Huskies are great house pets and are pretty good about getting around in the snow.  Put them in a one-on-one fight, and I think the Lion will win based on strength and arm span.

North Carolina State vs. South Florida

Wolfpack vs. Bull.  The South Florida Bull has the size and strength advantage here.  A Bull could tear apart a Wolf.  However, we are not talking about a single Wolf here.  A pack of of wolves can be vicious, especially when hungry, and they may be able to take down a bull.  I say...Wolfpack wins!

Hawaii vs. Arkansas

Rainbow Warrior vs. Razorback.  Pretty easy one here.  I am pretty sure the Rainbow Warriors would kill, cook, and eat any razorback that crosses their path, then do awesome tribal victory dances.  Sorry Arkansas.

Boise State vs. Mississippi State

Bronco vs. Bulldog.  Bulldogs are common household pets, easy to train...stupid...but man, they are ugly.  Broncos are wild, untrained horses who could kill you with a kick to the head.  Basically, the Bronco is bigger, stronger, faster, and more aggressive—Broncos Win!

Those were your play in matchups.  Make sure to check back tomorrow for the first 16-team bracket's rundown.
