The Wildcats' Pack Proves Powerful in SEC Run

Bowe FertigFeb 1, 2010

The Kentucky Wildcats were hungry after the 68-62 loss to South Carolina.

And they feasted in their mainland against No.20 Vanderbilt.

They beat the Commodores by double-digits as a pack with five Kentucky players scoring in double-digits.

The head of the pride, Demarcus Cousins, continues to lead the Wildcats in both total points, 340, and rebounds, 203, as he leads the SEC with 12 double-doubles.

Along with leading the nation in points per minute and rebounds per minute, Cousins is the first Kentucky freshmen to reach a dozen double-doubles and looks to extend his freshmen record averaging 16.2 points per game and 9.7 rebounds per.

Kentucky and the cast of freshmen reminded the nation of their unbeaten streak this year at home.

Ole Miss, who is 1-3 against top 25 teams this year, is the next team to contest the Wildcats at Rupp Arena.

The Rebels started the season strong winning a dozen of their first fourteen games, but have recently struggled in SEC play losing three of their first seven.

Kentucky will look to beat Ole Miss to give the Rebels their first back-to-back loss this season.

This is a big game for the Rebels because they will most likely be on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. It will add to the Rebel’s resume if they can beat Kentucky at Rupp Arena.

Both teams are at their best when they collectively score. The Rebels have five players that average double-digits in points compared to Kentucky’s four.

The Rebels top three players are their guards lead by another small-speedy guard in Chris Warren.

The Wildcats had a tough time defending SEC leader in points, Devan Downey, who has now scored more than 30 points in three consecutive games.

If Chris Warren can get penetration like Devan Downey did and distribute the ball to hot-handed shooters, the Rebels can steal one in a tough place to win.

The Rebel’s back court will have to play well, but the front court will have to play even better.

With the Rebel’s top two rebounder’s reaching in height of 6’7’’ and 6’8’’, forwards Murphy Holloway and Reginald Buckner will need to play the game of their season down low against the top bigs in the SEC.

Both Patterson and Cousins should have a double-double in points and rebounds because of the lack of size the Rebels present.

Kentucky guards John Wall and Eric Bledsoe will have to take care of the ball and attack the basket.

The size of the Rebel’s guards might possess a problem and will have to create turnovers in order to keep them in the game.

Expect the Big Cats to control the game and the guards to play well and put on a show in front of the home crowd.
