Tim Tebow, You Need To Show Versatility at Combine
Tim, I'm a big fan. I've enjoyed watching your career at the University of Florida for the past four years. You have brought a lot of joy and excitement to Gator Nation.
But, please, take my advice on this one.
Please, for your own sake and the sake of those who will follow your hopefully successful career, start working on reinventing yourself. Immediately, if not sooner.
I'm not a scout or a pro executive, just a fan and a hack of a writer who speculates on things. That being said, I have no real credentials to speak of.
However, what we Gator fans and admirers of your talent have seen during the last few weeks is discouraging.
We all know you'll be the warrior—as you have been for the Gators over the years. But now it's time for you to have a backup plan. With the strength and smarts you have, it might not be a bad idea to learn a new position and showcase that at the combine. Perhaps show some pass catching, blocking, and running success.
With the Senior Bowl not playing out as planned, perhaps showcasing your other talents will bring a new level of excitement—and the possibility to elevate your NFL stock in areas other than quarterback.
Please understand that as true Gator fans, we want you to succeed in the NFL. Period!
Again, just one open letter from an overweight sports junkie, telling an elite athlete how to run his business. But this sports junkie wants to be able to watch you play at the next level, whether it be at QB or another position.
Take that for what it's worth, Tim, and go for it. Just don't put all those eggs in one basket.
