Defense wins championships?

Hello football fans this is fantyendzone.com. If you’re not winning at fantasy football, you need to get into the end zone, the fantasyendzone.com

Let’s talk a little today about defenses. You always hear that defenses win championships. Is that really the case this year? This regular season the New Orleans Saints ranked 25th in total defense while the Colts ranked 18th. 25th is hardly dominant, while 18th is just middle of the road.
Against the run the New Orleans Saints ranked 21st giving up an average of 4.5 yards per carry & averaged giving up 122 yards a game. They gave up 19 Touchdowns on the ground. That is nothing to write home about. While the Colts ranked 24th giving up 4.3 and averaged giving up 126.5 yards per game. They gave up 10 touchdowns on the ground. Both defenses gave up some huge yards.

Let’s look at the pass defense. The New Orleans Saints ranked 26th giving up 6.9 yards per pass. They averaged giving up 235.6 yards of passing per game. They also gave up 15 touchdowns through the air, while intercepting 26 passes, which was the 3rd most in the league. I know this is not a stat that Colts fans did not want to hear. Saints fans are licking their chops after hearing that stat. The Colts were 14th against the pass giving up 6.2 & averaged just giving up 212.7 per game. They gave up 19 touchdowns through the air, and intercepted the ball 16 times.

The New Orleans Saints as a team sacked opposing Quarterbacks 35 times which ranked the 13th in the league. While the Colts sacked the opposing quarterbacks 34 times, ranking them 16th. That makes them pretty even. The New Orleans Saints averaged just giving up 21.3 points per game. While the Colts averaged just giving up 19.2 points per game.

During the post season the Colts have been 5th in total defense, while the Saints have been 9th in total defense. The Colts have been penalized for 110 yards in the post season, while the Saints have been penalized 54 yards.

Does this all matter? No it all comes down to who plays the better game on Super Bowl Sunday. Who said the defense wins championships? It should be a great game.
