Matt Hughes and Matt Serra Both Rehabing: Will They Meet at UFC 90?
Apparently even though Matt Serra was not forced to tap out in his fight with GSP as was Matt Hughes in their last meeting; Serra did not walk away from the experience "unscathed."
In elbowing Georges he compromised an ulnar nerve, which left his arm completely numb, a condition that has kept him on the inactive list until today.
Now that he is off the list he states he has already started to get back in training and is hoping for his match with Hughes to take place in the fall or at least before the end of the year.
Matt Hughes has mentioned on his site that he probably tore his MCL and PCL when his knee went out from under him as he took Thiagos' knee to his face and gave Alves his TKO victory at their UFC 85 match-up.
According to Hughes the tears will "heal by themselves" but just to be sure he will be getting a second opinion from a doctor.
Both fighters have been vocal about being anxious for a date to be set for their fight.
Fans will recall that there is no respect between these two fighters, only ill will and a history of verbal sparring that goes all the way back to Hughes' guest appearance on the UFC TUF 4, "The Comeback," which Serra won.
Matt Serra has used every variance of euphemism in the English language for a male appendage to label Hughes, my preference of his choices is the proper name for the organ found in the dictionary and not considered as a slang word.
Hughes professes to take the high road but has stated many times "that even his wife and kids are urging him on to fight and beat" the potty-mouthed Serra.
In noting this at his interview Serra said that "his wife" doesn't want "anyone putting words in her mouth like that." But surely she will be greatly relieved when the fight is over too.
Serra remarked that practically the first words out of Hughes' mouth after his loss to Alves were addressed to Serra to get ready for their fight and he replies to this, "hey dude (Hughes) get some steak on that eye and tend to yourself before you go callin' me out."
Don't let anybody tell you that this won't be a fight worth watching.
I am just praying that the two enemies will not accidentally run into each other unexpectedly (perhaps on their way to rehab) and fight it out without a camera crew present.
Now that would be a shame!
