Liverpool 2-0 Bolton Wanderers: Player Ratings

Umer TariqJan 30, 2010

Liverpool hosted Bolton in what promised to be a close game considering Liverpool's season so far. Bolton had an early chance through Tamir Cohen and then were only denied by a goal line clearance by Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

But Liverpool were in the lead when Alberto Aquilani nodded back Emiliano Insua's cross for Dirk Kuyt to score. On 70 minutes, Liverpool made it 2-0 through Insua's deflected shot of Kevin Davies.

The win extends Liverpool's unbeaten league run to six games.

Player Ratings

Pepe Reina: 7

Hardly had a save to make but did well to punch out couple of dangerous long balls.

Jamie Carragher: 7

Had a very solid game, linked up well with Kuyt on the right too.

Sotiris Kyrgiakos: 8

Another solid performance from the big Greek. Was commanding in the air vs Davies, who can be a threat to any team. Kept him quiet for the entire game and as always was an attacking threat too.

Martin Skrtel: 7

The Slovak appears to be regaining form too, as he had another good game alongside Kyrgiakos.

Emiliano Insua: 9

Assured at the back and a threat in attack. It was his cross that led to Kuyt's opener and he made it the advantage 2-0 with the deflected shot. Provided quality crosses through the game.

Dirk Kuyt: 7.5

Good game for the Dutchman too, as he scored a goal and was very involved throughout the game.

Alberto Aquilani: 6

Not a great game but created the first goal for Kuyt. Was taken off with 25 minutes still to go.

Javier Mascherano: 8

Mascherano did his job as a defensive midfielder and linked up in attack to provide a wonderful ball for Steven Gerrard as well.

Albert Riera: 8

He is back and Liverpool have improved.  Was very good on the ball, linked with Insua very well, and was a constant threat down the left hand side.

Steven Gerrard: 7.5

Looks like he is getting back to form. Was very involved throughout the game. Provided good crosses and could have scored a couple of goals but was unlucky.

David N'gog: 6

Missed a sitter that could have turned costly but overall a satisfactory performance, played okay as a lone striker.

Substitutes

Luca Leiva: 7

Came on for Aquilani and didn't put a foot wrong. Had a very good last 25 minutes.

Ryan Babel: 6

Came on at 85 minutes, didn't get much of a chance.

Man of the Match: Emiliano Insua

Had an excellent game.
