CLEVELAND FANS, WHAT'S YOUR WORST HEART ACHE MOMENT SINCE 1964?

Kurt MewsJan 28, 2010

Us Brown's fans are a dedicated and die hard bunch.  Since Cleveland's 1964's NFL Championship game over Baltimore, (The last major sport's title CLE fans have enjoyed) Brown's fans had to endure heart ache after heart ache. What is your worst heart ache moment since that championship game?  Here are my Top Ten heart ache moments.  Love to hear your stories and views.

1.  ART MODELL MOVING THE BROWN'S TO BALTIMORE:  Remember that gloomy day in December of 1995 hearing that The Brown's were moving, sucker punched by Art. But thank goodness, the colors, name and history returned, and Art Modell never did.

2. THE LAST BROWN'S GAME PLAYED AT MUNICIPAL STADIUM:  Heard that the seats were ripped out the floor popping and tears were shed as the victorious Brown's greeted fans after their win over in state rival Bengals.

3.  THE RETIREMENT OF JIM BROWN:  Arguably the best RB of all time, he retired at his prime never to look back.  We haven't had much talent like him since then.

4.  ALMOST BEATING THE '72 DOLPHINS: The Brown's gave that undefeated team the biggest scare of their perfect season. Remember the punter kicking the ball out of bounds and my father sharing with me in church on Christmas Eve that the Brown's couldn't pull it out.   Mmm, I was just a kid then, but remember it well, the Browns wore Brown that game!

5.  THE TRADE OF EARNEST BYNER:  Byner was the bread and butter of CLE's amazing O's of the 1980's.  The fumble and losses to Denver in heart break AFC Title games lead Art to that dreadful move, however, Byner would get a Super bowl ring with The Redskins.

6.  SIPE'S INTERCEPTION IN CLE'S FROZEN TUNDRA:  Just when the Kardiac kids, overturned The Steeler's dominance and were in position to beat the Oakland Raider during their typical late game magic, Sipe threw that dreaded interception, and Oakland went on to beat Philly in the Super Bowl. Was in a car going returning to College and we all sat silent for an hour as we pulled into our dorm parking lot.

7. THE DRIVE:  Ouch, I need not say more.

8.  THE FUMBLE:  Wait, let me pour some more JD in my coke!!

9.  KOSAR being CUT:  Still have the SI cover with his million dollar arm. Lead arguably the last great O's of CLE.  He gave us Browns fans hope and joy during the late '80's and went on to Dallas where He got his own Super bowl ring.

10.  PITT FALLS:  Giving up a huge lead in CLE's only playoff appearance since their return to the NFL in 1999 to their arch rival PITT, still see the snow falling.

HONORABLE MENTION:

11.  1985 Playoff loss, leading MIAMI 21-3 late in 3rd and losing momentum after a foolish personal foul.   So close but far away, remember Byner's and Mack's runs?

12.  Jerry Sherk's leg infection leading to retirement.  Have a picture with him in CA as he did some photography work at my place of work in 1985.

13.  The 1980 Hail Mary loss at Minnesota.  Still see that lousy catch!

14.  The Chicago Bear miraculous come back win in 2000? Believe that was the year.

15.  1990 AFC Title loss, the third in four years to Denver.  Remember the rubber band arm of Kosar, last hurrah for Brown's fabled teams of the 1980's.

16.  Belechek and Art Modell's Ravens winning Super Bowls.

Yes, this was a painful, but enjoyable trip dowm memory lane during my year's as a die hard Brownie! We Cleveland fans are a dedicated, die hard bunch with hope for the future. Not sure many NFL teams can share these sorts of memories and the anticipation of joy when the Browns can win it all!
