Georges, This is No Time to Worry about Mandy Moore!

Dorothy WillisJun 28, 2008

On June 27.2008 Georges St. Pierre was interviewed by Michael Lansberg on the "Off the Record Show" which originates in Canada.

The interview was probably meant primarily to advertise the July 5, 2008 viewing of the UFC 86 event to be held in Montreal, which Georges will be hosting.

During the interview Lansberg asked Georges about his rumored meeting with Mandy Moore.

Although Georges acknowledged that he "probably had met her" and said "hi," and "even shaken her hand,"  he further explained to his host that since "he is not a golfer" and was preparing for a full contact battle in which being seriously injured was indeed a possibility, he had not paid that much attention to the clearly smitten young actress.

Upon further questioning, concerning if Georges a well known movie aficionado had seen any of her films, the Canadian MMA WW Champ stammered a few seconds, recovered his wits and stated "I've seen one where she was running away from her father . . .ah. . .the president I think."

Michael rescued Georges by stating "her father was the president; that would be 'Chasing Liberty' " he interjected, and Georges clearly relieved by the "save" stated simply, "Yes."

Their conversation went on to other matters concerning Georges' fights, but, of course I sat pondering this promising young fighter's future, considering how he has chosen his priorities and the fact that he has already made a five and ten year plan for his future.

From my observations of two sons, and my 15 year old grandson (who has many girl-type entanglements and is in disagreement with me on this subject--kids, huh?), girls and success in athletic pursuits are not at all compatible.  And apparently Georges, at least, is wise enough to recognise this.

Romantic relationships can deal a death blow to a career in fighting.  Ask Travis Lutter and other fighters who have tried to juggle a relationship while pursuing a place in the ranks of the UFC.  In my opinion, women and maintaining a career in MMA are like arsenic and milk.  You may be able to mix them, but if you partake of the mixture it is pure poison.

Hollywood hotties may profess initially that they would be willing to take a back seat to their love interest's training, but this would not be likely to endure.

Women want a man's time, undivided attention, and finally, commitment.

Hypothetically, would Mandy be content to go to the Gym with Georges and watch him work out for hours with his trainer and training partners?  Could she possibly feign much interest in hitting heavy bags, sparring, medicine balls, repetitive weight training, jumping rope, and ground and pounding on a dummy?

Eating meals consisting of large amounts of water, granola bars, nutrition shake, steamed vegetables, and broiled chicken, rather than going out and making the rounds of the hot spots to eat surf and turf, Caesar salads with blue cheese dressing, potatoes au gratin, and creme brule, may not be as pleasing to her palate.

As with her other boyfriends, she may wish to include GSP in her favorite pastime which is shopping, so she could show him off to the multitude of mall rats and paparazzi who follow her about to see what is fashionable with the "in-crowd" of the world of celebrities.

"Rush" may want to share his passion for movies with her; will Mandy prefer going to see action movies and horror films with him rather than being "seen" at the film festivals such as Cannes and at movie premieres?

Planning sessions at Greg Jackson's camp are unlikely to be fulfilling for her either.  What would she do: walk around the gym looking at herself in mirrors wondering if her shorts make her butt look too fat, or trying to make meaningful contributions for planning the fight, such as "why not start out with a 'go-go' thingy or a 'platta' or two?"  Fat chance!

As much as I am a fan of Georges' mother Paulyne who may be hoping that "Rush" will provide her with a grandchild or two someday, I am pleased and proud of him for NOT rushing into a relationship to further his reputation as an MMA "stud," and having the good sense to put fighting and holding onto his championship first.

Remembering that his 'ten year' plan for the future is to retire, I think Georges will still have time to find a woman who will be suitable and fit into his plan.

Besides I have four granddaughters who will be old enough to date by then.
