Xavier Nady to the Chicago Cubs

Bronx Baseball DailyJan 26, 2010

According to Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports, free agent outfielder Xavier Nady has signed with the Chicago Cubs, pending a physical. Via Jon Heyman, we get the contract details: one-year $3.3 million guaranteed, plus $2 million in games-played incentives.

Not a bad deal for a guy coming off his second Tommy John surgery. Although, depending on the actual levels of incentives, he might not make all of them because he will be more of a fourth outfielder for the Cubs.

This is good news and bad news for Yankees fans. The bad news, obviously, is that Nady won’t be back in the Bronx next year, but the good news is that with Nady going to Chicago, another free agent, outfielder Reed Johnson, has one less attractive destination, making it more likely that he becomes a Yankee.
