Mark It Down: Shawn Michaels Will Not Face Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26

Mike SalvatoreJan 25, 2010

The WWE wants us to believe that Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker are on a collision course for a rematch at Wrestlemania 26.

I am not buying that for one second.

I feel that HBK is destined to not face the Undertaker, but his friend and tag team partner Triple H.

I think the WWE is teasing the HBK/Undertaker rematch as a way to slowly build a feud between the tag team champions.

Some of the members of the IWC are also predicting a match between the two longtime friends, however, many of them feel Triple H will be playing the role of the heel, but I must disagree.

There are several factors that could lead to an HBK heel turn.

Now we are all aware that HBK has been frantically trying to get a rematch with the Undertaker on the Grandest Stage of Them All, but to no avail.

Some feel that HBK will win the Royal Rumble to challenge Undertaker at Wrestlemania, but I see things playing out differently.

Trips has already made it clear that he has every intention of winning the Rumble, and while I do not foresee him winning the match, I do think he eliminates his long time buddy.

This will plant the seeds for the feud on the Road to Wrestlemania.

Tension will have been created between the duo, with HBK angered at the fact Trips robbed him of the chance to have his rematch.

I will also be operating under the assumption that DX retains the tag belts after their match this Friday for one important reason; so the group can continue to make appearances on Smackdown.

Having the group appear on Smackdown somewhat regularly enables HBK to continue to interact with Undertaker.

Undertaker can taunt him backstage or perhaps during a DX promo saying how he has lost the opportunity for his rematch, and that his failure will eat away at him.

Eventually DX should drop the belts to one of the tag teams on Smackdown (hopefully the Hart Dynasty) as a result of the Undertaker distracting HBK.

HHH would obviously be annoyed that HBK lost his focus and cost them the tag titles, causing more friction.

After losing their rematch because of another distraction by Undertaker, Trips calls HBK out on his obsession with him, leading to a ticked off and frustrated HBK super kicking HHH.

He then cuts a quick promo saying that after losing to Undertaker at the previous Wrestlemania, he was so disappointed he had to step away from the ring to reflect.

Then when Triple H called to help out with his feud with Legacy and reform DX, he got the competitive itch again and wanted a chance at the Dead Man again.

He tells the audience he is sick of being Triple H’s sidekick and Hornswoggle’s babysitter, and he is going to face the Undertaker at Wrestlemania somehow.

Prior to leaving the ring, he super kicks Triple H one more time to prove DX is done and to cement his status as a heel.

Playing on HBK’s obsession and ego, Undertaker tells HBK that if he can win the WWE title in the Elimination Chamber, he will agree to meet him at Wrestlemania in a champion vs. champion match.

In the ensuing Chamber match, HBK appears to be on the verge of winning, when Triple H (who was previously eliminated by several chair shots by Michaels) comes into the ring and costs HBK the title and the chance to face the Undertaker again.

This leaves about a month and a half for the WWE creative team to (hopefully) create an intense and provocative storyline between the two former best friends.

Some say they wouldn’t want to see Triple H and HBK go at it at Wrestlemania since they have had a lengthy feud in the past.

Seeing Trips play the face and HBK the heel would be a refreshing spin on the feud.

Also, I’m not sure about any of you, but I wouldn’t want to see HBK and the Undertaker go at it again just because I feel it would take away from their epic encounter from last year.
