The Game's New Kingdom: WWE SmackDown! Rebound

Ron JohnsonJun 27, 2008

Tonight's SmackDown! was about goodbyes, hellos and last chances at payback. When the night was over, everyone got what they had coming to them. Here is tonight's SmackDown! Rebound.

As the show opens, highlights are shown from this past Monday's draft. In the process, SmackDown! GM Vickie Guerrero opens the show to give her condolences to Vince McMahon as well as welcome the new voice of SmackDown!: "Good Ol' JR" Jim Ross.

As Ross takes his new spot at the announcers table, another new addition makes his debut/return to SmackDown!: WWE Champion Triple H!

The Game comes out and acknowledges his happiness from being drafted to SmackDown! for the second time. He then begins to focus all his attention on his opponent at Night of Champions, John Cena. But as he goes on about what could happen this Sunday, he is interrupted by SmackDown!'s resident jackass, better known as World Heavyweight Champion Edge.

The Rated R Retard comes out and at first tries to kiss the ass of the newest member of SmackDown! But after Triple H wins the matchup of Ego-Size (insert dirty puns here), Edge decides that he should make it clear to Triple H that he had better learn to respect him, because SmackDown! is his house. But as Edge tries to plead his case, he gets an unexpected visit from Batista.

As Edge tries to goad Batista in the ring, the Game helps his former Evolution buddy out by throwing Edge to the wolves to get speared by the stalking Animal. As Edge staggers away, Batista and Triple H are standing tall with the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship in the ring. Is this a sign of things to come after Sunday, perhaps?

First Bout: Kane & Big Show defeat MVP & Mark Henry

Kane and MVP start the match with Porter trying to chop Kane down to size. Kane recovers with a throat thrust and falling dropkick. As Kane keeps him in check, he aggressively tags in Big Show. After getting dropped on his mids by Show, MVP tags in Henry.

Show takes control with a vicious chop then viciously tags in Kane. After a boot to the side of the head, MVP gets caught with a sidewalk slam. Kane nails a set of clotheslines followed by the Big Red Boot. MVP tries to bait his partner into the ring to handle the ECW Champion, but Henry instead tosses Porter to the wolves. As a result, Kane chokeslams MVP to pick up the win as Henry walks away from a possible fight.

In the back, Vickie is discussing the wedding with her wedding planner when Edge comes in whining about Batista's "theft" of the World Title. Vickie seems more focused on the wedding than Edge's woes as she reminds him that they will exchange vows in two weeks.

Second Bout: Finswoggle defeat Edgeheads (Curt Hawkins & Zac Ryder)

As the bell rings, Hawkins and Finlay start the bout. Finlay gets control, thanks to a miscue by Hawkins and a spear from Hornswoggle. But thanks to Ryder's interference, the Edgeheads have control. But it is only short-lived as Finlay recovers and counters with the Celtic Cross.

He then tags in Hornswoggle, who nails the Tadpole Splash for the win. All of a sudden, Miz and Morrison come out to play head games, but Finswoggle (yes, Finlay/Hornswoggle) are more focused on dancing than giving the tag champs the time of day.

Third Bout: Edge defeats Matt Hardy

In one of the most anticipated bouts of the night, Edge spends the beginning of the match dodging his most dangerous past adversary. Hardy has control, though Edge manages to slip out of the Side Effect and Twist of Fate.

Back on SD!, Hardy still has control, but Edge continues to evade. Hardy dives off the apron and nails a clothesline. As Matt drops the punches, Edge picks him up and drops him on the turnbuckle. Following a body splash against the ropes, Edge has control of the match. Back in the ring, Hardy recovers and lands a back slide but counters it into a Side Effect.

After landing an elbow drop, Hardy lands a DDT after Edge tries to wiggle out of the Twist. As Hardy goes for the moonsault, Edge moves and goes for the spear but misses the first attempt. After a counter for counter, and thanks to Hardy checking on the referee, Edge nails the spear to pick up the win.

The next two bouts were so long-winded that they're not even worth recapping. So I did this instead: Vladimir Kozlov defeats Domino and Maryse, Victoria and Natalya defeat Cherry, Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool.

Now let's get to the good stuff. Back on SD!, Rey Mysterio is on his way to the ring to speak to the SmackDown! crowd for the last time.

Rey comes out and not only thanks the fans of SmackDown! for six years of glory, but also invites them to continue their support as he heads to RAW. In Spanish, he tells the crowd, "Thank you. I love you all. I'll see you on Monday nights. See you soon." As Rey salutes the crowd one last time, the Animal comes down to embrace his friend and fellow RAW draftee. After that, it's time to get down to business for Batista.

Main Event: Batista defeats Umaga via Disqualification (Outside Int.)

The match begins with a slugfest between two guys whose history dates back to Wrestlemania 24. Umaga takes control with a big splash from the ropes. Batista fights out of a Samoan Claw only to get caught in another one. Again, the #1 Contender for Edge's championship fights back but gets dropped with a dropkick and a series of headbutts from the Samoan Bulldozer.

Batista manages to move out of the way of the headbutt and counters with a spinebuster. As he sets up for the Batista Bomb, members of La Familia hit the ring and ambush the Animal. Umaga joins in on the fray, but as he goes up top to drop the Samoan Splash, Triple H hits the ring to help his former Evolution member clear the ring of the assailants.

It's capped off with a Pedigree to Hawkins and a Batista Bomb to Ryder. The show ends with The Game screaming towards Edge "This is my house! This is my Kingdom now!"

With Night of Champions just three days away, will SmackDown! lose both of its major championships or will either the Rated R Retard and The Game survive the onslaught from The Animal and The Doctor? Will Vickie ever reveal who Natalya will face for the first ever Divas Championship at Night of Champions?

Tune in this Sunday to Night of Champions for all the answers!
