Yesterday on MMALive, co-host Kenny Florian alerted fans that he’s in the process of inking a contract extension to remain with the UFC.

“Right now, I’m in negotiations to sign a contract with the UFC, to do a multi-fight deal with them pretty soon. I’m very excited about that,” stated “The Ultimate Fighter 1″ runner-up. “I have had the honor and been blessed to start my career with the UFC and definitely plan on finishing it there.”

Although the Bostonian says his career began inside the Octagon, Sherdog.com indicates that Florian had a 2-1 professional record before emerging in the UFC. We’ll assume that Florian meant his career didn’t take off until after appearing on the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Regardless, Florian holds an impressive 12-4 professional record, with all but one of his victories ending before the final horn. Although he thoroughly handled Roger Huerta at UFC 87, Florian had to settle for taking a lopsided unanimous decision that August 2008 evening.

Florian also discussed the rumor that he and Japanese superstar Takanori Gomi will be headlining UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31st. The former top contender reiterated that nothing has been agreed upon, however Florian sounded as though it was all but a done deal.

“Nothing is signed yet, but that’s a fight I’ve been wanting for a long time,” Florian stated. “Takanori Gomi is of course a legend in the sport, a guy I have a lot of respect for. It’s going to be a great fight.”

The yet-to-be-announced Spike TV broadcast is expected to take place in North Carolina and will serve as a lead-in for “The Ultimate Fighter 11″ debut immediately after.
