Lewis Will Bounce Back!

Billy SextonJun 26, 2008

Former World Champion, Damon Hill, backs Lewis Hamilton to bounce back from his recent penalties and become a stronger force as a result.

Hamilton's title charge was put on hold, in Magny Cours, as he suffered from two penalties, the first a 10-place grid penalty for his shunt in Canada and the second a drive through penalty for gaining position from cutting a chicane.

Hill also said that Lewis shouldn't worry about what is coming out in the press and silence them with his driving skills.

Hill faced similar press scrutiny in the 1990's when he was at the top of his game.

"It’s something he has to go through. He will pull himself through it, and he will get stronger. It’s a phase that drivers seem to go through. It’s part of the growing process, I think, in becoming a champion."

Hill revealed that it is unbelievably difficult to deal with the British press when you have a realistic chance of winning the top prize in Formula One.

Ross Brawn, part of the Honda F1 Racing Team, has also urged the young Briton to do his speaking on the track, as it is the easiest way to silence the press.

Three time world champion, and one of F1's greatest, Niki Lauda, said that Hamilton must not get distracted by the press and also not to lose belief in himself and his talents.

"Lewis needs to get his relationship with the press firmly in focus and keep in mind that anything which is written in the papers the morning after a race, whether he does well or badly, isn't going to alter the fact that he is one of the very best Formula 1 drivers of the current generation," Lauda said.

Sir Jackie Stewart has given Hamilton support and has reminded everyone that Lewis is still in the early stages of his F1 career.

It seems that Lewis has already taken on board some of the advice given as he was a class apart in the McLaren at Silverstone today, setting the fastest lap of anybody over the three days.

I predict that Lewis will return to form at the British Grand Prix.

My faith in him is still strong and I genuinely believe he will win the World Championship in 2008, despite being 10 points behind Championship leader Felipe Massa at the present time.
