NFL Shocker: San Diego Chargers One and Done...Again

Todd KaufmannJan 17, 2010

Ok, so it’s really not that big of a shock but the San Diego Chargers are left wondering what happened.

They were supposed to be a Super Bowl contending team, people already talking about a San Diego/Indianapolis showdown, but that talk came to an end as Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets shocked the Chargers 17-14 from Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Though, I’m not sure if anyone told the Chargers that the Jets were the top rated defense in the NFL and they played like it holding the Chargers to just 61 yards rushing. Chargers’ running back Darren Sproles finished with 33 yards on just three carries while LaDanian Tomlinson was held to just 24 yards on 12 carries.

I guess San Diego should be used to this kind of disappointment though, they watch the Padres go one and done every time they go to the playoffs.

They’ll join the happless Dallas Cowboys as both will be watching the rest of the playoffs from home. The Chargers do have this going for them...at least they showed up for the game. Dallas decided they could just show up, tell the Vikings that “we’re the Cowboys” and expected the Vikings to bow down.

Well, the Vikings didn’t bow down, they torched the Cowboys 34-3. Leaving the Cowboys to whine and moan about getting the score run up on them. Not sure why they’re crying, it’s not Minnesota’s fault that the Cowboys forgot how to play defense.

Well, they'll be disappointment on the sports radio waves in San Diego and in Dallas. I can already predict what I'm going to hear on a local Dallas station tomorrow morning. Anything from "Tony Romo sucks," to "Fire Wade Phillips," nothing I haven't heard before and nothing Cowboy fans haven't said before.

As for San Diego, I'm sure they'll be calling for Norv Turner's head. They haven't liked him since he was hired in February of 2007. So go ahead Charger fans, start the "hire Bill Cowher" chants, keep that dream alive.

At least you have a better shot at that than a Super Bowl championship.
