Reggie Bush= Overrated

Gregory MacMillanJan 15, 2010

Reggie Bush was amazing at the University of Southern California but that is not translating into the NFL. I remember when the Houston Texans decided to take Mario Williams with the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and thought it was a terrible pick. After looking at what Reggie Bush did vs. Notre Dame in his junior season at USC I thought to myself, this guy is great. He is so quick, fast and can be relied on to do just about anything.

The thing that I did not realize is that college superstars do not always translate into NFL pros and vice versa. My first point of this is by looking at Jason White from the University of Oklahoma. In 2003 he won the Heisman and just about all of the other awards as well that a quarterback could win. He was amazing on the University of Oklahoma Sooners but the furthest he got in the NFL was a spot on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans for one year (2005).

We all thought that Reggie Bush was going to be this player that nobody could stop. The only thing is that he could be very easily stopped. He is not that tall for the multiple positions he plays and he is very predictable. The good part for Reggie is that he is very mobile and can play multiple positions. If somebody gets hurt he can easily fill in and bring something to the table. Reggie Bush showed off that he was a good player against the Chicago Bears in the 2006 NFC Championship game but his team got embarrassed on national television by losing 39-14. He is a good player and got to USC by breaking the rules set out by the NCAA, or at least suspected of breaking them, but he is just one player the Saints can go without and probably be the same team they are.

The thing that New Orleans has going for them is a great quarterback. Without Drew Brees the Saints would finish at the bottom of their division just about every year. They are doing so great this season because of a stellar offense. Their offense can only get them so far. If they do not learn how to play defense, I see them losing in the high powered Arizona Cardinals
