Buckeyes Have A Pryor Engagement

RyanJan 15, 2010

With the 2009 season The Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to continue their success into 2010. The key to a potential National Championship run lies in the hands of the most controversial Buckeye to date. The controversy doesn't lie in his abilities, or in off field behavior, but rather with each fan's personal opinion.

Pryor has, in my opinion, the most pressure of any recruit in the modern era. He is compared in every way to Vince Young. Every pass, every run, every interception, critics for and against him develop a deeper hate or a fonder love for this unique athlete. He has all the potential in the world, but the experts just don't seem to think he will live up to it. The came the Rose Bowl, and everyone changed there tune.

Texas Tech Statement on Sorsby

I am not sure if you can base a career on one game, but I do think that you can develop your legacy on that game. If I remember correctly Vince did something similar on that very same grand stage. Let's compare the numbers for VY and Pryor in there sophomore years.

Passing:
Pryor: 295 passes attempted…18 touchdowns…11 interceptions…2,094 yards…
Young: 250 passes attempted…12 touchdowns…11 interceptions…1,849 yards

Rushing:
Pryor: 631 yards…6 touchdowns
Young: 998 yards…11 touchdowns.

Interesting, but not reason to crown the Buckeyes National Champs just yet. I do believe that Pryor had to put up these numbers with a heavier weight on his shoulders than did Young. The fan base across the country cannot seem to agree on whether Pryor is the real deal or just a wannabe VY. I feel that Pryor is a better QB at this stage of his career than VY was at the same stage.

What does all this mean to you as Buckeye Nation, well if you have a five point NASCAR type seatbelt, you might want to strap it on, because 2010 could be a magical ride.

Pryor has an experienced head coach who knows his personnel better than any coach in the country. He has a seasoned defense coming back which will divert a lot of the pressure off the offense, and a receiving corp that will have a year's more experience. This all adds up to a potential BCS Title run. I know the rest of the nation is not prepared to see the Buckeyes in their 4th National Championship game in 8 years, but guess what, they will be there. I consider this my Pre-Pre Season prediction, or winter prediction. Ohio State Buckeyes VS Alabama Crimson Tide. Remember, if you plan on trying to grab an autograph next January 10th the Buckeyes already have a Pryor Engagement in Phoenix. Oh, and for all of you wondering the final score, you will have to wait until August.
