Brett Favre vs. Tony Romo: Tale of the Tape

Tim ArcandJan 15, 2010

Enough Already! Let me make this short and sweet.

This is to all those Brett Favre haters that keep referring to his record against the Cowboys in the playoffs (0-3), or to his last playoff game against the Giants.

This also to all those people saying Tony Romo has the edge because the Cowboys have the momentum, after defeating the Eagles at home last weekend.

Favre is having the best year in his 19th season in the league. He had a career best quarterback rating of 107.2 and a career low in interceptions with seven. His 262 passing yards per game in 2009 rank third in his career.

His career postseason record is 12-10.

At home, where Favre and the Vikings were 8-0 this season, his playoff success is 8-3.

The three playoff losses to Dallas—all three were on the road in Dallas. The last of these in 1995. That's 10 years before Romo was even in the league.

Romo is 1-2 in the playoffs, counting the victory against the Eagles.

This should end up being a very close contest. Every way this game has been dissected points to a coin toss. It's strength against strength in the Dallas running attack (seventh) against the Minnesota run defense (second), or the Minnesota scoring offense (second) against the Dallas scoring defense (second).

It's two 12-win teams going against each other.

I believe it's going to come down to the play of the quarterbacks.

Who would you pick?

The one with 22 playoff games or the one with three?

The one with 39 career postseason touchdown passes or the one with four?

The one with the a QB rating in 2009 of 107.2 or 97.6?

This is not intended to bash Romo, no need to drop to the level of the haters. He has a lot of years left in his career, and all indications are he will end up with an impressive resume.

But for this game it's no comparison—Brett Favre has the upper hand.

Vikings win this one at home 38 - 28.
