WAC to SEC: Is Derek Dooley of Louisiana Tech the Man for Tennessee?
Has Tennessee lost their minds, or have they become this desperate?
According to CollegeFootballNews.com, Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley could be on his way to Rocky Top to become the next head coach at Tennessee.
No offense to the Volunteers, but how does a guy that finished 17-20 in three seasons with Louisiana Tech all of a sudden become the head coach at one of the top programs in the SEC?
Lane Kiffin didn't like you enough to stay. Will Muschamp decided the "heir to the Texas throne" was good enough for him to turn you down. Then Duke head coach David Cutcliffe would rather win nine games in two years than leave for greener pastures.
Has desperation really come to Rocky Top? I have nothing against Dooley personally, but if I'm Tennessee, I would think names like Chris Petersen or Pat Hill would come up long before Derek Dooley.
But with signing day just a few weeks away and Tennessee recruits apparently being on rocky ground, no pun intended, maybe they took the only name that could be interested.
Maybe they've already made calls to the Petersens and the Hills of the world but were told they weren't interested. Petersen just signed a five-year contract extension with Boise State, and Hill signed an extension with Fresno State as well.
If Derek Dooley really is the man for Tennessee, it may not help the recruiting bleeding since the departure of Kiffin.
