Kovalainen Tops Testing Time Sheets

Heikki Kovalainen set the fastest lap at the Silverstone test today.

The McLaren driver seemed in a league of his own today as Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica could only manage to set the sixth (Kubica) and seventh (Massa) fastest times.

Jarno Trulli shone again, setting the second fastest time, just 0.3 off of Kovy.

Nico Rosberg clocked in the third quickest time, hinting that Williams may be in good shape for the Grand Prix.

Unfortunately, his car came to a halt half an hour before the end of the session and he was carried back to the pits in a Transit Van!

However, sticking his head out the window and waving to the fans got them cheering!

Nelson Piquet was next in the pecking order with a time of 1.20:787.

He also caused the session to be red flagged when his Renault R28 came to a halt early in the morning.

“The Heir of Michael Schumacher,” Sebastian Vettel showed his strong relationship with the STR3 is still growing and set the fifth fastest time and was just 0.008 slower than Piquet's Renault.

Robert Kubica slipped from second to sixth between the morning and afternoon and really couldn't find the sweet spot with his BMW F1.08.

This was a similar situation for Massa in the Ferrari, despite setting the fastest time for the first sector.

It was a troublesome day for Austrailian Mark Webber as he only completed 39 laps, after suffering from an electrical glitch.

At the other end of the spectrum, Jenson Button completed a mammoth 106 laps at his home circuit but could only manage to set the ninth fastest time.

The Force India of Fisichella was at the bottom of the time sheets.

He was 1.5 seconds slower than Kovalainen.

He crashed his car at Becketts corner in the morning and was taken to Northampton hospital for precautionary checks on his wrist.

Thankfully everything turned out fine.
