Cub Fans..... Keep Praying.....Yanks, BoSox, and Phills Are Fine

Matt GillisJan 7, 2010

The way I see it is that the Cubs are very close to rebuild mode.  For the all people out there that think they will ever see a Cubs World Series run, better think again and again and again.

Take a look at the American League and the Yankees.  No one will be competing with them besides the Red Sox. And Phillies are their only competition in the World Series.  And there we go, no one in the National League is going to be competing with the Phillies for a long time.  They are young and extremely talented. Don't forget about potential 25 game winner Roy Halladay.  The only thing that would kill the Phills is if Halladay gets injured and JA Happ gets the sophomore slump.  Cole Hamels will be better this year and help a lot which he failed to do last year.  Otherwise, you can mark them down once again to get back to the World Series.

Best Offseason Moves (Seattle)

I absolutely LOVE what Seattle has done this off-season.  If I were from Seattle, I would be ecstatic.  Cliff Lee, Figgins, and Bradley will booster their lineup possibly to a playoff spot.  Ichiro and Figgins will be a deadly 1-2 combo and with Bradley in there looking to have a comeback season, look out. Also, if a playoff run is made, watch out for Felix and Cliff (could upset many teams with that duo).

Worst Offseason Moves (Cubs)

Although the Cubs did BS this off-season, besides unloading their cancer, they didn't make moves to contend for a World Series Title.  It was a great move to get rid of Bradley, but they got back garbage in return.  Even if Silva does win 15 games, that's IF and about a .09% chance of that happening, they still wont be able to compete with the Cardinals dual of Pujols-Holliday and Carpenter-Wainwright.  In my opinion, the Cubs should trade Big Z for some prospects of high caliber and start a bit of rebuilding.  In retrospect, the Cubs will be better off this season if Aramis is healthy and Soto returns from his hibernation.  Also, Lilly could be a liability coming off of shoulder surgery.
