The New Year did not come kindly for the two remaining undefeated teams from the Big East. One team, West Virginia, unsurprisingly lost to another undefeated team, Purdue, on the Boilermakers' home floor. The manner in which West Virginia lost was shocking.

Purdue crept out to a small halftime lead, but throttled the Mountaineers' five-forward lineup in the second half as the Boilermakers opened the final frame on a 30-9 run.

The other Big East team to wallow in miserable defeat was Syracuse who inexplicably blew a 10-point, first-half lead to Pittsburgh. The Panthers handled the Orange in front of the 24,000-plus that filled the Carrier Dome.

Strong ball movement and physical intensity the 'Cuse hadn't seen all season left the Orange completely unprepared for the brutal battle the two teams engaged in.

With Syracuse and West Virginia's losses, just four teams remain without a loss and all four teams find themselves occupying the top four spots in this week's Bleacher Report Top 25.

The gap between Kansas and Texas did not continue to shrink as it had during the past two weeks. The Jayhawks' strong performance to knock the highflying Temple Owls straight out of the air helps Bill Self's team remain at the top of many voters' ballots.

Brigham Young made the largest jump of any one team as the Cougars went from not receiving a single vote last week to receiving 48 and the 24th overall ranking.
