St. Louis Blues: Wins and Loses Don't Matter

preston blaineJun 23, 2008

The Blues took another step forward Friday and Saturday in the new regimes attempt to bring St.Louis its first Stanley Cup.

However, they are in the midst of a full rebuilding process and it is any ones guess whether their young and very talented players will turn in to legitimate players in the NHL.

I want to stress to any fans of this team to be patient and do not expect the Blues to begin another 20+ years of consecutive playoff appearances in the 2008-2009 seasons.

The fans, as well as the coach, need to look at the Cardinals this year for a good model to go by.  The Cardinals have brought up many young players this year, and Tony Larussa has given in to the franchises direction of building a base of young talent.

Andy Murray needs to get the backing of John Davidson that his job is safe so that he does not look at the win loss column as positive steps.

The way to handle this team is to put the young players on the ice in the NHL and let them grow together.

The fans of this team will not stand for underachieving overpaid veterans, like Jay Mckee and Eric Brewer, to get time when they have cheaper players with more exciting upside down in the AHL.

This being said, Patrik Berglund, T.J. Oshie, Roman Polack, David Perron, and Eric Johnson all must be fixtures on this team this season.

Hopefully with NHL teams workout plan, Pietrangelo can grow into his lanky frame and help the blues out by the all-star break.

Blues fans need to get excited about seeing these young players, and not worry about the playoffs just yet. The team will be there. Pittsburgh went through some hard times and look where they are now.

Fans are beginning to think we are the Cubs of the NHL, and with one more season out of the playoffs this franchise could see fan backlash.

So, I stress, again, patience among the fans, because that is what the ownership group is showing.

Don’t look at the win loss column at the end of the year, just enjoy watching these young talents develop, that is assuming Andy Murray actually plays them.
