Chicago Cubs 11, White Sox 7—Recap

The Cubs beat the White Sox 11-7 behind a huge fourth inning in which they scored nine runs, to go with Jim Edmonds who homered twice in the that same inning.

The White Sox took an early 2-0 lead after Jermaine Dye homered, but in the bottom of the first the Cubs scored one run on a Aramis Ramirez single that scored Eric Patterson to make the score 2-1.

Later in the top of the fourth, the White Sox scored two runs of their own when Dewayne Wise hit a two-run home run to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom half of the fourth is when the Cubs blew the game wide open.

It all started with a Jim Edmonds solo shot to left field, followed by a Mike Fontenot home run. Kosuke Fukudome then single to score Ryan Theriot,followed by a Eric Patterson single that drove in Jason Marquis.

Derrek Lee added another run when he singled in Fukudome, Aramis Ramirez then belted a three-run home run that was followed up by Jim Edmonds second home run in the inning, to give the Cubs a 10-4 lead. The Cubs tacked on a run in the sixth inning when Mark Derosa drove in Derrek Lee on a single to give them a 11-5 lead. 

The White Sox did manage to score in the fifth inning on an A.J. Pierzynski single that drove in Juan Uribe. They then added a run in the eighth on a wild pitch that allowed Carlos Quentin to score. In the ninth, the White Sox scored again when Jermaine Dye singled in Orlando Cabrera to make the score 11-7, but that was as close as they got. 

Jason Marquis, who pitched for the Cubs, went seven innings allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out four. With the win, Marquis moved to 6-3 on the season as Kerry Wood came on in the ninth to nail down his 19th save of the season. 

Jose Contretras, who pitched for the White Sox, put in 3 1/3 innings allowing nine earned runs on ten hits while striking out just one and also allowing three home runs. Contreras fell to 6-6 with the loss. 

Tomorrow the Cubs will look to finish off the SWEEP of the White Sox as they send Ryan Dempster to mound, who is 8-2 with 2.76 era. Going for the White Sox will be Javier Vazquez, who is 7-5 with a 4.12 era. Game time is set for 7:05 pm ct., as the game will be shown on ESPN.
