The Buffalo Bills' Offensive Woes/Needs; 2010 NFL Draft
I'm looking at this team. I see major team weaknesses here: scoring, passing offense, rush defense. Schobel is only going to degress at his age, Maybin looks like a bust (just like we all thought he'd be). They could use upgrades at linebacker as well. Looking at the stats, they are 3rd ranked in pass defense however, which is suprising. The offensive line could also use some new blood and I'd like to see them nab a big, space eating DT.
Anyways, looking at the draft it'd be easy, with their record, to grab the top offensive lineman. That'd be a solid pick, but looking at the team play (as a casual watcher) their offense is very stagnant. T.O. probably won't be there next year (who knows). There is very little threat to score once you jam 8 to stop Marshawn and Fred. Last year McKelvin was a madman and put points up on returns. He'll be back next year.
Now if they purposely throw their next game to get an advantage in the draft they could possibly have a top 5 pick.
Lets say they do get a top 5 pick. Suh and Okung are more than likely gone, do you pull for an OL like Bruce Campbell (Maryland)? With recent draft trends the top OLs will be gone at this point too. Do you reach a bit for a QB? It should be illegal for the organization to force the fans to watch Edwards play another year. Bradford (Oklahoma) should still be there, Clausen (Notre Dame) as well. Running back CJ Spiller (Clemson) is the biggest homerun threat in the draft. What would YOU do?
Personally, I'd take the most explosive player (on offense) in the draft. The offense as is causes indegestion, they need a spark. Brandon LaFell (LSU) would be a great choice here, but I'm looking for a PLAYMAKER. Damian Williams (USC) and Dez Bryant (OK.State) will shoot up the charts after their combine. They both should run sub 4.45 and have great all around skill and are extremely explosive playmakers. I like Damian Williams here. He has amazing skills as a return man and can break a big one whenever he touches the ball, just watch his tape from USC. And that's not to take away from his receiving skills, being USC's only threat at receiver he busted double teams and made spectacular catches all year. Even if Buffalo doesn't have a top 5 pick they should still be able to pick Damian. Many are calling him the best college route runner in the best 5 years. The guy has great hands and has "Reggie Bush type" ability in the open field. There's no doubt he can give that offense a much needed boost.
I've had inquiries about other teams too. Stay tuned.
