Week 17: 2009 NFL Team Power Rankings | Fantasy Football Rankings

Sean E. DouglasDec 30, 2009

No undefeated teams are left thanks to the Colts management and coaching staff pulling out their star players with five minutes left in the third quarter, last week. Now that the Colts and Saints have home field locked up and nothing to play for, I don't believe you will see the starters from both teams play all game.

Watch out for other playoff teams like the Bengals, Cardinals, Chargers and so on to rest players this week as they get ready for the playoffs to begin.

Below we have a short right up on the top ten teams on our power rankings for this season.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list as they are the teams you want to have your players going against for the fantasy football super bowl.

1. Colts (14-1)

The Colts finally rested their players and this week we should see starters like Peyton Manning rest even more. Look for the Colts starters to play maybe the first quarter of the game in Buffalo against the Bills.

2. Saints (13-2)

The Saints have been falling apart the past month or so but I do believe they can still rebound before the playoffs start. If they can beat the Panthers next week than it should be a confidence builder going forward.

3. Chargers (12-3)

This team is rolling as they've now won their last ten games in a row and crushed the Titans on Christmas. Since the Chargers have the number two seed locked up in the AFC they will probably rest their stars in the second half this week against the Redskins.

4. Eagles (11-4)

While the Eagles continue to move up the power rankings it could all be for not if they lose this week against the Cowboys. This weekend the Eagles and Cowboys face off in a huge game for the NFC Eastern Conference Title.

Look for a spirited game as both teams are likely to duke it out all game long.

5. Vikings (11-4)

Last week was another disappointing game for the Vikings as they watched the Bears' breakout to a 16-0 lead in the first half. To the Vikings' credit, they did show life in the second half and tied the game 30 to 30 and went into overtime.

Unfortunately, Adrian Peterson fumbled the football and the Bears won the game. Look for the Vikings to play a full game this week as I do believe they still need a win to lock up the number two seed in the NFC.

6. Packers (10-5)

Even if the Packers beat the Cardinals this weekend they won't have a chance to win the NFC Central Division. This is because the Packers lost to the Vikings both times this year and if both teams end with eleven wins the Vikings will still win the division.

That being said I still expect the Packers to play a full game this week in Arizona. This team needs to stay hot in order to get on a winning streak in the playoffs.

7. Patriots (10-5)

A few weeks ago things looked dim for this team as they dropped back to back games against the Saints and the Dolphins. Since that time, the Patriots have won three games in a row and have now won the Eastern Title.

Look for the Patriots to keep their momentum rolling and play their starters for most of this weeks' game against the Texans.

8. Cowboys (10-5)

The Cowboys are officially back in the playoffs even if they lose this week against the Eagles. If the boys can beat the Eagles this weekend they can win their division as they would have beaten the Eagles twice this season.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do just that as this team is playing very good football right now.

9. Bengals (10-5)

This team is starting to fade, but they did win last week against the Chiefs and have now won the AFC Central Title. This is a great accomplishment as they play in a tough division with the Steelers and Ravens.

The fact that the Bengals swept both their entire division this year, should give this team a lot of confidence for the next few years that they can win this division and continue to make the playoffs.

10. Cardinals (10-5)

The Cardinals play an afternoon game, and by the time they suit up, they will know the results of other team's games. This could play a factor in if the Cardinals play their starters for the entire game or not.

  • 11. Steelers (8-7)
  • 12. Ravens (8-7)
  • 13. Jets (8-7)
  • 14. Broncos (8-7)
  • 15. Texans (8-7)
  • 16. Giants (8-7)
  • 17. Dolphins (7-8)
  • 18. Jaguars (7-8)
  • 19. Falcons (7-8)
  • 20. Panthers (7-8)
  • 21. Titans (7-8)
  • 22. 49ers (7-8)
  • 23. Bears (6-9)
  • 24. Seahawks (6-9)
  • 25. Raiders (5-10)
  • 26. Bills (5-10)
  • 27. Browns (4-11)
  • 28. Redskins (4-11)
  • 29. Chiefs (4-11)
  • 30. Buccaneers (3-12)
  • 31. Lions (2-13)
  • 32. Rams (1-14)
