UFC Matchmaker for a Day: Being Joe Silva

Joshua CareyDec 30, 2009

I've done one or two of these in the past but haven't done one in quite some time, so here so we go. I'll give three matchups in each weight class that I would like to see and predict the winners of each if they were to happen.

Heavyweight

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Brock Lesnar

TOP NEWS

UFC 319: Du Plessis vs. Chimaev
Colts Jaguars Football

Frank Mir vs Cain Velasquez

Shane Carwin vs Junior Dos Santos

Light Heavyweight

Mauricio Shogun Rua vs Lyoto Machida (rematch in 2010 will happen)

Randy Couture vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira

Rashad Evans vs Quinton Rampage Jackson (get it over with already)

Middleweight

Anderson Silva vs Nate Marquardt

Vitor Belfort vs Wanderlei Silva (just for pure KO excitement)

Alan Belcher vs Chael Sonnen

Welterweight

Georges St. Pierre vs Demian Maia(small for 185 & could make 170)

Thiago Alves vs Dan Hardy

Jon Fitch vs Dustin Hazelett

Lightweight

BJ Penn vs Tyson Griffin

Frankie Edgar vs Kenny Florian

Diego Sanchez vs Sean Sherk

Predictions

Brock Lesnar—Too quick, strong, and big for the lighter Nog. Weight and reach  discrepancies too much for Nog to overcome.

Frank Mir—Cain just doesn't have the tools to compete w/Mir or Lesnar yet.

Junior Dos Santos—JDS striking and edge in jiu-jitsu would be the difference.

Mauricio Shogun Rua—Just rewatch the first fight.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira—Rogerio makes it 0-2 for Couture against the Nogs.

Rashad Evans—Rampage will be in awful shape after filming the A-Team.

Anderson Silva—Silva by submission in a much tougher fight then the first match.

Vitor Belfort—Vitor by KO, but it sure would be exciting to watch "again."

Chael Sonnen—Every time Belcher lifts his leg Sonnen puts & keeps him on his back.

Georges St. Pierre—More well rounded in all aspects, but Maia presents a standard of jiujitsu that presents a danger to everyone, especially at 170lbs. St. Pierre by TKO.

Thiago Alves—His striking is a bit better and his size would be too much for Hardy.

Jon Fitch - Fitch has the overall edge in all aspects of the fight game & has shown much improvement since his decision lost to St. Pierre.

BJ Penn—Griffin would be a stern test, but everyone else was supposed to be too.

Kenny Florian—Florian possesses a better, more well rounded game.

Sean Sherk—Given that he doesn't abandon his wrestling prowess like he has lately.

Not all the matchups are great, but they're what I came up with off the top of my head. If you guys have suggestions I'll switch the matchups or add new ones. Together we can tweak the list up. Thanks!
