MLB Rumor Wire: Matt Holliday, C.C. Sabathia on the Move?

There is nothing better than baseball rumors in June, is there? There are plenty of things going on in MLB that aren't happening on the baseball diamond. Here is the latest:

Matt Holliday

The recent trade rumors regarding Holliday have just been halted by the Denver Post. Holliday is a free agent at the end of next year, and he has been the subject of many trade rumors these past months.

Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd may just opt to sit the season out without discussing Holliday's future until the offseason. He would then make the decision whether or not to re-sign or trade Holliday, or simply let him walk away.

C.C. Sabathia

The many trade rumors concerning Sabathia just keep increasing, reports the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

The list of Sabathia suitors includes the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs. Three of those teams have recently had starting pitcher problems and are in need of another ace. The Yankees lost Wang, the Red Sox lost Colon, and the Cubs could lose Zambrano.

Unless the Indians can regain the ground they lost in the AL Central, Cleveland may be forced to trade away Sabathia.

Brandon Webb

Negotiations to bring Webb back after his contract expires have officially stopped. Webb and the Diamondbacks both say that they will continue after the season.

There is no report as to what caused them to end, but Webb says that the ongoing negotiations have been distracting to him.

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are looking to improve their starting rotation as they attempt to make a playoff push. They have inquired with various teams regarding pitchers, but because of their weak farm system may not be able to provide enough in any possible trade.

Philadelphia has contacted the Cleveland Indians regarding C.C. Sabathia, the Toronto Blue Jays regarding A.J. Burnett, the Cincinnati Reds regarding Bronson Arroyo, and the Seattle Mariners regarding Jarrod Washburn.

They have also asked the Seattle Mariners about Erik Bedard, who was recently put on the trading block according to ESPN's Jayson Stark.
