Rediscovering My Faith In Favre As MVP

August AugustDec 28, 2009

About two hours ago, my phone rang up with text message after text message, all proclaiming the same thing, “The Vikings lost.. Again!”. Unfortunately, I was well aware of the fact that they had yet again lost to a team that was obviously lower ranked. The Chicago Bears, who don’t even have a shot at the playoffs, humiliated the Vikings at their home field. The Vikings, who are one of the top teams in the NFC, failed to clinch a first round playoff bye.

Despite the rather embarrassing game played only two hours ago, there is a silver lining. I’m sure all you Vikings fans are questioning “How could anything good come out of such a loss”? Well, for one, I’ve regained my faith in Favre as MVP candidate.

Sure, the Vikings lost. In fact, the Bears had a good sixteen points on the Vikes before Favre’s purple team managed to complete a touchdown. But, when all hope was lost, Favre pulled out yet another miracle. His passing drive in the third quarter was nothing short of amazing, but that wasn’t the highlight of the Favre’s game.

If you’re a Vikings fan, or even a fan of Favre, you probably won’t have any trouble remembering the shocking pass that Favre threw in the 49ers game. Similar to the fantastic throw earlier in the season, the #4 hero threw another great pass to Rice to tie the game up in the last few second of the fourth quarter.

I’d like to see Manning do that. Twice.

While the Vikings do have Favre and Peterson on their team, it may not be enough to get them to the Superbowl. The defense, in addition to the offensive line, is lacking in more areas than one. While the Vikings have suffered yet another shocking loss, it will hopefully work as a wake-up call for the team to get themselves back together. If they can, I think that there will be a very bright rest of the season for both Favre and his Vikings.
