Week 16: NFL Regular Season and Fantasy Football Player Rankings

Sean E. DouglasDec 28, 2009

Another week gone by and for many this was the final week of the fantasy football season. Hopefully, the Colts benching their star players didn't destroy your hopes of a championship this year as it was a tough call to sit them.

Below I have some observations from the 16th week of the regular season and how I see those points of interest playing out from a fantasy perspective.

2009 NFL Regular Season Week Sixteen

  • Chargers vs Titans
  • Bengals vs Chiefs
  • Texans vs Dolphins
  • Steelers vs Ravens
  • Panthers vs Giants
  • Buccaneers vs Saints
  • Eagles vs Broncos
  • Jets vs Colts
  • Cowboys vs Redskins

Regular Season First Fifteen Weeks

Fantasy Football Regular Season Week Sixteen Notes:

Matt Moore the New Panthers Starter?

If Matt Moore isn't starting over Jake Delhomme to begin next year he probably will be in not that long of time. Delhomme had a horrible season and Moore has had a great end to this year.

Fantasy football owners can now draft a player like Steve Smith next year with confidence that if Delhomme can't get it done, Moore can make Smith very productive.

Speaking of productive, Jonathan Stewart had a huge game with over 200 yards rushing and a touchdown in this game. Stewart was giving a chance to get the full load with DeAngelo Williams out with an ankle injury.

Look for the Panthers to bounce back next year and make a strong run for the playoffs.

Breaking Fantasy Owners Hearts

For such a great game last week against the Jaguars, the Colts' fantasy players like Peyton Manning, Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne had a completely different game this week.

This was a very disappointing situation for fantasy owners to have to decide on as this team played so competitively last week. The Colts probably tipped their hand when they signed practice squad quarterback Drew Willy on Saturday.

With an extra quarterback on the team, it seemed likely that the Colts were serious after all about sitting their players no matter the situation.

Hopefully, fantasy owners can remember a solid season from their respective Colt players and not only remember this unfortunate week to end the year.
